Man Sues Hooters, Wants to be a Waiter but not a Hooter’s Girl

A man from Corpus Christi, Texas, claims he doesn’t want to be a Hooter’s girl but wants to work at Hooters as a waiter, so the man, Nikolai Grushevski filed a federal lawsuit claiming gender discrimination.
Houston-based attorney Martin A. Shellist, who represents Grushevski, said he wanted to make it clear his client didn’t sue to become a Hooters Girl.
“My client wants to be a waiter. He does not want to be a Hooters Girl,” Shellist said. “He wants to serve food and earn tips, and why can’t he?”

Well, actually Grushevski can follow his “dream” of being a waiter in Corpus Christi as there are hundreds of other establishments in the area that hire men as waiters. Yet this isn’t “good” enough for
Grushevski, he wants to be a waiter at Hooters.
Grushevski’s attorney asked why his client can’t be a waiter at Hooters. I might ask, why should he?
The theme at Hooters is girl waiters, and not just any girls, but pretty girls. This is part and parcel why many, meaning mostly men, go to Hooters, the pretty girls and the good food.
Grushevski believes that Hooters continues to discriminate against men even after a discrimination lawsuit was settled 11 years ago. The upshot of the prior suit in 1997:
“Hooters agreed to pay $3.75 million to settle a sexual discrimination lawsuit filed by a group of men. That class-action settlement allowed the chain to continue to have only Hooters Girls serve food and beverages.
Hooters also agreed to create gender-neutral positions such as bartender, host and kitchen staff.”
Grushevski claims in his suit that this is still gender discrimination, that men should be able to work as waiters at Hooters if they so choose. Grushevski is also seeking monetary damages from Hooters, all because he can’t be a waiter.
Here’s a fellow who wants to be a waiter in a town that has literally hundreds of establishments where he could seek employment, yet he picks one establishment as his “dream” job of a waiter, one which hires only pretty girls. Which makes me wonder, what was the real reason Grushevski picked Hooters? Was it really because he just absolutely, positively believes Hooters is the only place where he can follow his dream of being a waiter, or was it some other reason, one that is tied to a potential big bucks award?
What about Hooter’s right to have a theme? What about customer’s rights, the right to visit Hooters to be served by pretty girls? Should Grushevski’s desire to be a waiter at Hooters, supersede the rights of Hooters and its clientele?
Trip Advisor.com lists 303 restaurants in the Corpus Christi area. Out of a possible 303 places to work as a waiter, Grushevski set his sights on Hooters, an establishment that hires girls as waiters. Offended that he couldn’t have his “dream” job of working at Hooters, Grushevski filed a federal lawsuit seeking monetary damages.
Grushevski could potentially be awarded millions because of Hooter’s policy, a policy which supports its theme, that of waiters who are pretty girls. The same theme that draws its customers.
Let’s say Grushevski wins his lawsuit. Would he then deposit his monetary award then show up to work at Hooters as a waiter, his “dream” job? I doubt it.
A win by Grushevski could mean a potential end to Hooters, as it would essentially destroy Hooter’s theme. So while Grushevski believes he has the right to work as a waiter at Hooters, he evidently doesn’t care whether his “right” may eventually destroy Hooter’s theme and eventually Hooters.

Why should he be denied the opportunity to make good money as a waiter there? Of course any red blooded 22 year old wants to work at Hooters, beer, sports, hot women, lots of customers- where else can he make good money in Corpus?
Not only that…but what else are they discriminating about, hair color, religion, where does it end???

Well, if Hooters would just concent to hire him, give him a shot at his dream job, it might turn into a nightmare for the sfidiot instead. Think about it – a restaurant, with boobs as part of its name, that has built a reputation on having lovely ladies serving food, all of a sudden has some dude slinging hash. He’d be laughed out of a job. Do you really think that he would make any good tips? Imagine the reaction of a group of guys being seated in his section. He’d only get as far as asking for their drink order before the laughter would start. Oh, the embarasment and humiliation he’d suffer. Also, would the rest of the hooters girls welcome him with open arms? I think not. Settle out of court by offering him a job.

Hooters still does discriminate against men today! They only accept males in the kitchen. I applied as a bartender, and was told…it’s a female only position at my local Hooters. I am a fully qualified bartender. If I could work at Hooters, I would also be a waiter because a lot of women also frequent Hooters too! They may look at in a different way, sort of like a novelty attraction. I would love to spend a day in the life as a Hooters girl, lol. Furthermore, I am still trying to get that bartending job!

They should let this idiot serve as a hooters “girl” by having him wear the exact tank and short-shorts the girls wear. Let’s see how idiotic he’ll look.
As another poster has pointer out, he’d be laughed out of the place by gangs of frat-like guys. What a stupid waste of the court’s time. Such suits should be dismissed with costs to the ridiculous opportunist.

interpreting laws sometimes seem to lead to freak out!
perhaps there are possibilities to judge hooters for discriminating other colors, like green or blue, because the nice girls have only orange and white on….(att.:cutting irony)
