Three days before Election Day 2008 and much of Barack Obama’s past remains shrouded in secrecy. The same press that can tell you how much Sarah Palin’s shoes cost can’t seem to muster any curiosity over large gaps in the Obama narrative.

The remaining customers of the LA Times have been treated to the spectacle of the Times making news by not reporting news–a familiar position for the paper.
In July, even though John Edwards was caught at the Beverly Hilton visiting his mistress by reporters from the National Enquirer–and it was confirmed a few days later by Fox News–the LA Times instructed its reporters NOT to write about it on their blogs. So, readers of the LA Times are used to being kept in the dark. The Obama-Khalidi video is just the latest instance of this happening.

Did Obama Attend Columbia?
An interesting article appeared yesterday at Unqualified Reservations, “Did Barack Obama Go to Columbia?“.
Interesting because it speculates that the reason the Obama campaign has not released his Columbia records is–that Barack Obama didn’t really attend Columbia.
Far-fetched?
Perhaps, but not as far-fetched as a candidate getting this far in the political process without the press issuing its normal calls to see his records.
My question is: was Barack Obama ever a student at Columbia? Because here’s how one scurrilous compendium of racist smears puts it:
Obama graduated from Columbia College in 1983, and after spending a year in New York, moved to Chicago.Wayne Allyn Root says, “I don’t know a single person at Columbia that knows him, and they all know me. I don’t have a classmate who ever knew Barack Obama at Columbia. Ever! … Nobody recalls him. I’m not exaggerating, I’m not kidding.
Questioner: Were you the exact same class?
Root: Class of ’83 political science, pre-law Columbia University. You don’t get more exact than that. Never met him in my life, don’t know anyone who ever met him. At the class reunion, our 20th reunion five years ago, 20th reunion, who was asked to be the speaker of the class? Me. No one ever heard of Barack! Who was he, and five years ago, nobody even knew who he was… the guy who writes the class notes, who’s kind of the, as we say in New York, the macha who knows everybody, has yet to find a person, a human who ever met him. Is that not strange? It’s very strange…
When asked about his undergraduate training at Columbia University, The New Times states that Obama “declined repeated requests to talk about his New York years, release his Columbia transcript or identify even a single fellow student, co-worker, roommate or friend from those years.”
Many of his classmates don’t remember Obama. He’s not in the yearbook. Columbia couldn’t find a picture of him at school.
What can be said with some certainty is that Mr. Obama lived off campus while at Columbia in 1981-83 and made few friends. Fox News contacted some 400 of his classmates and found no one who remembered him.
As the author, Mencius Moldbug, observes: “What is the chance that a budding young politician of undeniable talent and promise spends his junior and senior years at Columbia, and no one remembers him? What is the chance that my right ass cheek, through spontaneous quantum vibration, suddenly transmutes into a hemisphere of polished gold? Don’t you feel these probabilities are at least roughly comparable?”
The normal minions of the Obama campaign descended upon the blog, filling the comments section with their usual spammery. But, this article highlights one inescapable fact.
If Obama released his Columbia records, such speculation–well-reasoned as it is–simply would not be written. Moldbug could be writing about Obama’s re-distributionist policies.
Moldbug asks a few questions that would have been answered already–if Barack Obama had released his Columbia records.
Barack or Barry – note that he is still Barry while at Occidental; at the next place we know he existed, Harvard Law, he has become Barack – spends two years at Columbia. He presumably receives two years worth of college credits. By taking two years worth of college courses.
Furthermore, in every other period of his life, he is known as the gregarious and charismatic young man he obviously was. Nor can his looks be described as ordinary. Nor is even his name ordinary. This man is a future president. And no one remembers him? No one?

The Columbia records are part of a pattern:
- no medical records released to the press;
- no Occidental records released to the press;
- no Harvard University records released to the press;
- no Columbia records released to the press;
- the fight to gain access to the Chicago Annenberg Challenge records;
- no original birth certificate released to the press.
There’s also another pattern: the press is perfectly satisfied to be kept in the dark. In 2004, CBS News had such a burning desire to see George Bush’s service records, they foisted forged documents onto their viewers.
Perhaps that explains why CBS News has exhibited no curiosity to see the unreleased Obama records?
Did Obama really attend Columbia?
We don’t know. We have to take Obama’s word for it.

Barack Obama certainly is a candidate for change. Consider:
- Barack Obama is the first candidate to opt out of public financing–after he promised on national TV he would not–since public financing started in 1976. That’s quite a change.
- Barack Obama has not released his college, university or medical records. Obama has released more books (2) than he has records (0). That’s also quite a charge.
- Barack Obama showed up in Joe the Plumber’s neighborhood; Joe asked Obama a question and Obama’s answer reveals an unpleasant fact: Obama wants to “spread (Joe’s) wealth around”. Obama partisans use state computers to look into Joe’s supposedly private records and then leak the info to a lapdog press that publishes and broadcasts it. That’s certainly a change.
- A Democrat attorney has to file suit in an attempt to see Barack Obama’s birth certificate. The suit was dismissed over the issue of “standing”. But the Obama legal team fought the suit instead of showing Obama’s original birth certificate.
That’s a lot of change.
It would be easy enough to dispel the speculation surrounding the past that shrouds Barack Obama: Obama could release his records from Columbia.
And Occidental College.
And Harvard University.
And his medical records.
And his original birth certificate.
But he won’t–and the press won’t ask him.
Absent any of these records–which Obama has refused to release–speculation is not only correct, it’s to be expected. The absence of a press fulfilling its adversarial role as concerns Obama?
As Victor David Hanson wrote in The End of Journalism:
The media has succeeded in shielding Barack Obama from journalistic scrutiny. It thereby irrevocably destroyed its own reputation and forfeited the trust that generations of others had so carefully acquired. And it will never again be trusted to offer candid and nonpartisan coverage of presidential candidates.
Worse still, the suicide of both print and electronic journalism has ensured that, should Barack Obama be elected president, the public will only then learn what they should have known far earlier about their commander-in-chief — but in circumstances and from sources they may well regret.
Obama has chosen to be a “fill-in-the-blanks” candidate.
Until the Obama records see the light of day, we’ll fill in a few of those blanks.
Anyone who disagrees?
They know nothing; they are merely speculating as well.
That includes pundits, MSM “journalists” and Obots lurking in the comments section.

Perhaps he had two passports? One would give him standing as a foreign student, eligible for financial aid; wouldn’t it also make it possible for him to leave the country and return w/o comment? Use one (Indonesian?) to exit, and the USA to re-enter? Were passports scrutinized in the US that carefully in those years? It wouldn’t be the first time a student has gamed the system. Ayers could probably teach a course in that.
I am amazed at people who don’t find it curious—much less frightening—that they know so little about the man they expect to save them. I think Jesus’ life is better documented.

Senator Obama has campaigned to bring transparency to government. Yet, he will not produce a copy of his Hawaii Certificate of Birth. Under these circumstances, I’m amazed how intelligent persons belittle those who question whether Senator Obama is a natural United States citizen. As I understand it, (1) Senator Obama’s father was not a citizen; (2) if the Senator was born outside the United States, because his mother at the time was only 18 years old she by herself could not convey upon him natural born status. Rather than produce the Certificate, Senator Obama’s representatives, as proof he was born in Hawaii, have touted a questionable Certification of Live Birth. It is my understanding that unlike the Certificate, the Certification, does not contain (1) the name of the hospital, or if the birth took place outside of a hospital, the street and number of the location where the birth occurred; and (2) the identity of the person who certified he or she witnessed the birth.
At http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/bloggers/2076197/posts, the posters have put on the internet what they say is their daughter’s 1971 Hawaii Certificate of Birth. Now assume the information provided in the posted Certificate of Birth was required by Hawaii at the time of the Senator’s birth in 1961. Notice that box 5d. provides the name of the birth hospital or “if not in hospital, give street and number”. Boxes 9a and 9b requires the signature and the relationship to the child of the “informant”, who certifies the child’s biographic information is “true and correct”. Boxes 10a through 10d requires the signature of the Certifier, such as the doctor or midwife witnessing the delivery of the child, who certifies “that the above named child was born alive at the place and time and on the date stated above”. When the child is born in a hospital, a member of the facility’s medical staff, that is, an independent person, verifies the occurrence of the birth. Now, what if Senator Obama’s birth certificate shows a “home birth” and the certifier is either his mother or grandmother? Would this not be consistent with the theory that Senator Obama was born outside the United States and that whoever certified the birth certificate sought to cover it up? Under these circumstances, why do so many people denigrate voters who want to see the Senator’s birth certificate before the election to confirm that the Senator satisfies the constitutional requirement that the preside of the United States by a natural citizen.

This may be of the tinfoil hat variety, but here’s a thought. There is a liberal arts college in the Chicago area also named Columbia. They sent my daughter information and called her senior year of HS. At first blush we were quite excited thinking THE Columbia University was interested in her. They clearly promote themselves this way and want people to have this false impression. Maybe he didn’t attend college at all while in NYC, maybe he actually attended the other Columbia in Chicago years later. I wonder if anyone has checked records at the other school. This may seem far fetched, but clearly possible and for him to claim to have attended and graduated from Columbia technically wouldn’t be a lie in this case….just shading of the truth.
Doesn’t that sound like something he’d do? Maybe that’s why nobody remembers him and why he doesn’t want to talk about his Columbia years. Just a theory and as plausible as any other, I suppose.

AN OPEN LETTER TO BARACK OBAMA: PLEASE RELEASE YOUR BIRTH RECORDS!
To Barack Obama,
I know you are busy running for President of the greatest country in the world, but there are a couple of things about your background and qualifications for the office that concern me and many of my fellow Americans. Never before has a Presidential candidate failed to fully disclose routine information about their background that might help the voters make an informed choice in an election.
It seems that many records concerning your background have either been sealed or are temporarily unavailable for review. I know that any honest person like yourself, who is running for the highest office in the land, would never overtly want to keep such information from public review.
Here’s a partial list:
1. College records from Occidental College, Columbia University and Harvard — Not available and locked down by college administrators.
2. Columbia Thesis paper — not available, locked down by college administrators
3. Certified Copy of original Birth certificate – - Not released (sealed?)
4. Certified Copy of Certification of Live Birth — Not released (sealed?)
5. Birth records from Kenya (sealed by the government of Kenya until after Election Day)
I believe items #3,4 and 5 are the most critical and they concern two issues that are very important to the American people:
1. Are Are you a Natural Born Citizen of the U.S.? and
2. Are you legally qualified to hold the Office of President?
In a recent federal court case in Pennsylvania, an American citizen, Philip Berg, filed a lawsuit claiming you were not a natural born citizen of the United States and therefore not qualified to be President. During that case, you never denied Mr. Berg’s claims, but neither did you provide a valid birth certificate or other proof that you are a natural born citizen of the United States and therefore qualified under the Constitution to be President. Rather, you hid behind technicalities in the law to avoid the issue and the federal judge hearing the case dismissed Mr. Berg’s lawsuit stating that Mr. Berg, acting as a “citizen,” did not have legal standing to make such a challenge. This is a prime example of another outrageous decision by a federal judge to deny the American people their rights clearly outlined in the constitution.
There have been several lawsuits filed, or currently being filed, in 7 or 8 states with various state Boards of Elections, claiming you are ineligible to be on their ballots because you have not produced proof that you are a natural born citizen of the United States.
This past weekend, Hawai’s Health Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said that there is a valid 1961 Certificate of Live Birth (“COLBâ€) in the file for Barack Obama. That’s great, but one of the questions that has arisen during the past few months is whether or not the document that appears in the file is authentic, or has is been recently placed in the file. Dr. Fukino issued a very limited opinion based on a review of the supposedly “original” document in the file that may or may not be accurate. As you may recall, there was a COLB for you posted on the internet in the recent past that was reported as an original, but which was later found to be only an abstract of a computer record having no connection to the original 1961 COLB document. The abstract was later taken down.
In an election of a President, where being a “Natural Born Citizen” is a requirement for the position, I believe that the American people have a right to know if the document reviewed by Dr. Fukino is the actual original document and what does it say about the birth? What hospital were you born in? Who was the attending physician? What was the date and time? What names are listed on the COLB? I think the question of your birth is a very important constitutional issue and the issue should be publicly put to rest one way or the other.
Mr Obama, it seems that you are creating needless confusion when you could easily avoid all of this doubt simply by asking for release of your original 1961 document and let it be examined. Why haven’t you done this? and why have you fought against every attempt to produce the document?
Mr. Obama, if you are truly and honorable man and a “Natural Born Citizen of the United States” you can clear up this issue very quickly. Just sign a release to have the full document examined and made available for public scrutiny in any one of the names you have been know by (Barack Obama, Barry Soetoro, Barry Obama, Barack Dunham and Barry Dunham).
Your avoidance of the issue and your subsequent failure to provide proof that you are a “Natural Born Citizen of the United States” is very suspicious and raises a very important constitutional issue that must be addressed before the November 4th election. I am asking you to stop using legal technicalities, record sealing and courtroom maneuvers to avoid the issue. The American people have every constitutional right to know whether or not you are a “Natural Born Citizen” and they will eventually find out.
Let’s put this issue to rest once and for all. Either prove that you are a “Natural Born Citizen of the U.S.” and are legally qualified to hold the Office of President, or withdraw the race.
If you do not provide the necessary proof, or withdraw from the race, and win the election on November 4th, rest assured that the American people, regardless of party affiliation, will stand up for their constitution and remove you from office.

Since last August I have written and emailed the following persons five times and followed up with telephone calls to my senators: Carper, Biden, Castle, Chief Justice Roberts and Associates Scalia and Thomas, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, and Laura Ingraham. Today I visited the office of Sen. Tom Carper, and his secretary said no one else had questions about Barack Hussein Obama, that I was the only one. Furthermore, she did not know one single thing about the slew of unanswered questions surrounding Sen. Obama. A U.S. Senator’s secretary knew nothing whatsoever about Obama’s doubtful place of birth, etc.!? Incredible. All the evidence we poor, stupid citizens can dredge up indicates Barack Boy was born outside the U.S. Are we going to ignore the Constitution? More than likely. Anything goes and nobody cares. I am 80 years old, have served my country twice during wartime, was disabled, and I don’t recognize the place anymore.

Now that the President of Columbia University (the one in NY) sent a letter to all alumni announcing the fact that the first Columbia grad has been elected president.
What does that do to your premise that Obama never attended Columbia?
Yet another “theory” completely debunked by truth.
First, you are embarassed by the State of Hawaii, who have validated the COLB is true and accurate, and now the President of Columbia University has you all made to look like fools.

If you re-read the article, we never said Obama didn’t graduate from Columbia.
And, like the alumni newsletter I receive, the letter makes for fine PR.
No embarrassment here. It seems a simple thing for the public to take a look at Obama’s birth certificate.
Just curious as to why its such a state secret?
I had to provide my birth certificate (they wouldn’t accept an image) last year when I renewed my drivers’ license.
Seems like it would be a simple thing to do: pony up your birth certificate, instead of all of the COLB images.
When people take other than a simple route, it makes me curious. I suppose I may be the only one.

Sorry, forgot I was reading a blog. You are correct, the title of the article, and content throughout only implied he didn’t attend, or that there was something mysterious about his attendance. But now there are plenty of people who remeber him, and he does show up in a 6-year old alumni directory.
On the birth certificate…
I believe the COLB is accurate for 2 reasons:
1. State officials in Hawaii (under letterhead of the Republican Governor) have confirmed that have seen the original Birth certificate. If, in fact, it said he was born somewhere other than Hawaii, they would be bound to reveal to at least law enforcement, a fraud (e.g. the COLB posted on the Obama websites). Do you really think they would risk their jobs and careers to cover up something that would disqualify Barack Obama from being President. The risk would be too great that the fraud would someday be uncovered and they would be implicated in the coverup. Why not say nothing? They also earlier stated that the COLB posted had all the correct information on it.
2. The list of people who are covering up the fraud keeps growing. For every person you add to the conspiracy, it doubles the chance of someone speaking up. They even have the Factcheck.org folks now as part of the conspiracy. The posted photos of the COLB show the same document that was scanned in. The photos themselves are proof that it wasn’t his sister’s COLB photoshopped. If they have a physical COLB with his name on it, then why didn’t they just scan it in, as opposed to photoshopping someone elses?
Finally, I went to the website of the Hawaii DOH, and you cannot request, using their form, a long-form birth certificate. Much like California, your only option is a COLB. I am sure BO could get them to publish or send him a copy of the original, but he is probably busy right now. As far as I know he has never refused to furnish it, the simple fact is he has already provided the only document the state would give him for $12.

Thanks for your cordial response.
The points you raise are not invalid ones. In all of my COLB stories (mostly on missing Obama records–I believe we only have done 6 or 7 on the birth certificate alone), I have never posited that there was any conspiracy. I agree with you 100% that conspiracies never work because someone always talks. That’s why I don’t believe in them.
I HAVE written that 1961 was quite a different time than now: record-keeping occurred in a much more relaxed atmosphere. Until the late 80s, it was still possible to walk into almost any courthouse in America and procure a birth certificate, whether you knew the person or not. It was after 60 minutes did their expose on Eden Press’ Paper Trip that states cracked down on “document procurement”.
In my county, I know that through the 1970s, people routinely dropped birth announcements off at the newspaper office, no proof needed, none asked. September 11 2001 changed a lot of things–security of documents was one of the biggest changes. Many people don’t know that procedures were much different prior to 2001 and even more unregulated in the 50s, 60s and 70s.
So, if there was anything done, it didn’t have to be a web of conspiracy. It could have been as simple a matter as a mother wanting what was best for her child. One thing that certainly she would have recognized as best would have been American citizenship.
I’m not saying that it happened this way. Only that if it did, it wasn’t a conspiracy, just one person doing what was best for her child and doing it in a state that didn’t require any proof to receive a COLB if the birth was registered within a year. It had to be this way in Hawaii: some islands in the state to this day still do not have even a doctor residing.
Asking questions doesn’t mean that we’re crazy. Only that we’re curious.
When we don’t get answers, or we get finely-parsed statements–when a simple, straightforward answer would have done–it does nothing to ease that curiosity.
And we’re patient. It took 10 long months of asking questions until John Edwards was caught.; 10 months of being labeled “conspiracy theorists” and “wingnuts” and worse.
It’s only been about 10 weeks since we started looking into the COLB story. Heck, this story would disappear tomorrow with the production of an original Obama birth certificate. I took a pass on the story for months because I didn’t have the time to look into it enough to write about it with any knowledge. I had other stories that were more pressing.
As we noted in our story yesterday, state officials can’t be trusted to verify much of anything. The NJ Sec of State allowed Roger Calero, the Socialist Workers’ candidate for president on the ballot (as did other states). Calero was born in Nicaragua and still isn’t a US citizen. (He’s a resident alien holding a green card.) So there’s no question he was not eligible to be president. Yet there he was on the ballot. We also wrote yesterday that there were legitimate questions about McCain’s “natuaral-born” status. But McCain didn’t win.
We suspect that Obama attended Columbia. As we pointed out, it’s hard to imagine that at the time the story was published, none of his classmates remembered him being there. That doesn’t mean he didn’t graduate: only that he may have been busy doing something else.
I can relate. I didn’t attend many of my classes either. But I’m not the President-elect and have never been accused of “electrifying” people with my presence.

Barack Obama posted the copy of his birth certificate he received from the State of Hawaii. Just like everyone else, he sent them $12, and posted the certificate they sent back.
The State of Hawaii has certfied he was born in Hawaii.

This barleyman character is pretty good at spouting the party line.
It’s interesting to revisit these threads a year later to see what the obots posted. For instance, he says that obama posted his colb online. What in the heck is that supposed to prove? And guess what? The state of Hawaii has refused to authenticate the copy that is online! How about that barleyman?
Secondly, the copy that is online says the information has been FILED with the dept of health. It doesn’t say ACCEPTED, like other colbs do, and like a colb should. What it implies is that the information was never accepted, and wouldn’t you know it, the state of hawaii dept of health REFUSES TO RELEASE THEIR CURRENT COPY OF PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES so that the difference can be completely explained.
Thirdly, the state of Hawaii dept of health made their statement that they had seen the vital records, (again, we don’t know if they were ever ACCEPTED) and then stated that he was a natural-born American citizen. (very curious wording, it’s not put like that anywhere else, and leads some to suspect that the dept of health is playing word games) In addition, they made the statement IMMEDIATELY after, but not until AFTER the US Congress passed a resolution stating that Obama was born in Hawaii. The dept of health didn’t release their statement until AFTER the resolution passed. Could that be how the state of hawaii came to their conclusion? Just asking.
Fourthly, the dept of health in the state of hawaii is REQUIRED BY LAW to disclose how they come to the conclusions that they do when they make public statements. (such as the one that they make about obama being a natural-born american citizen. And, once again, wouldn’t you know it, they REFUSE TO COMPLY WITH THIS LAW. Litigation is commencing on this issue as I write this post.
Now if this whole obfuscation and cover up by the msm doesn’t smell to high heaven……..

In Australia we had a judge who was convicted of perjury for quite a small matter but when his records were checked it was found his credentials were false. We also had a surgeon who ended up killing quite a few people on the operating table and his diplomas etc., were false. These things happen and are happening so I am not surprised when I read the President of the United States may not not be who he says he is but is he doing a good job?
