Dogs Bark I Do in Chicago Park Wedding Ceremony
According to the Chicago Tribune a special ceremony was held in downtown Oak Park, the matrimony of several dog couples. What was even more interesting were the pithy comments linking the doggy I do’s to current affairs:
“Dogs can marry while gay people cannot?”
“Is this legal in California?”
“Did you notice that the “bride” had a muzzle on?”
“The dogs that are being wed, are they the same sex? If not, then we should start working on a legislation ASAP to make it illegal!”
I have a feeling this was a shotgun wedding.”
“Oak Park? Go figure! I fully expect a man or woman to attempt to wed a dog or a cat there before too long.”
Someone took “offense” at the comments and responded by defending Oak Park:
“This “wedding” was done to try and enter the Guinness Book of World Records for the most dogs assembled for a wedding. It was pure fun and not meant as anything other than that. This was planned long before Tuesday’s results about gay marriage.
As an Oak Parker, I resent the comment by Terry that we are idiots. Oak Park is a leader in diversity, has one of the finest school systems in the country, is world renowned for its architecture (home of Frank Lloyd Wright)and many great people were either born here or grew up here including Ernest Hemingway, Percy Julian, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Bob Newhart, John Mahoney of Frasier, Betty White and countless others.
Plus Oak Park allows domestic partnership and is in the forefront on gay rights.”
