McCain Campaign Brings Up the Subject
Of Barack Obama’s Anti-American Associates
MSM Leaps to Obama’s Defense

Barack Obama and Bill Ayers

Bill Ayers and Barack Obama “crossed paths” according to NY Times; AP Helps Out

Barack Obama: Every time someone kicks over a rock, another anti-American associate scurries out from underneath it–and the New York Times, AP and the Mainstream Media are there to explain how it means nothing.

John McCain’s campaign FINALLY is bringing up the many, many questionable associates of Barack Obama. The Obama campaign will respond through paid advertisements and, more importantly, through unpaid political ads masquerading as “news stories” in the Dinosaur Press of the Mainstream Media (MSM).

MIKE ALLEN, Politico, reports Exclusive: Obama to call McCain ‘erratic in crisis’
. According to Allen, Obama is launching a pre-emptive strike: he’s going to address his questionable Chicago buddies before McCain’s campaign commercials “portray him as having sinister connections to controversial Chicagoans.”

Obama officials call it political jujitsu – turning the attacks back on the attacker.

McCain officials had said early in the weekend that they plan to begin advertising after Tuesday’s debate that will tie Obama to convicted money launderer Tony Rezko and former Weathermen radical William Ayers.

But Obama isn’t waiting to respond. His campaign is going up Monday on national cable stations with a scathing ad saying: “Three quarters of a million jobs lost this year. Our financial system in turmoil. And John McCain? Erratic in a crisis. Out of touch on the economy. No wonder his campaign wants to change the subject.

“Turn the page on the financial crisis by launching dishonorable, dishonest ‘assaults’ against Barack Obama. Struggling families can’t turn the page on this economy, and we can’t afford another president who is this out of touch.”

The entire transcript of the Obama ad.

Barack Obama has already begun getting help in defusing the “sleazy, unAmerican associates” angle. The New York Times ran an article Saturday on Obama mentor, Bill Ayers, that was one part “downplay the Ayers connection” and two part Obama unpaid campaign ad.

SCOTT SHANE of the NYT starts the shilling in the headline, Obama and ’60s Bomber: A Look Into Crossed Paths. Got that? Obama and Ayers, they just “crossed paths”, that’s all.

Twenty-six years later, at a lunchtime meeting about school reform in a Chicago skyscraper, Barack Obama met Mr. Ayers, by then an education professor. Their paths have crossed sporadically since then, at a coffee Mr. Ayers hosted for Mr. Obama’s first run for office, on the schools project and a charitable board, and in casual encounters as Hyde Park neighbors.

The Times article has quotes aplenty from the Obama campaign and Chicago Mayor Daley to back up it’s assertions that really, Ayers and Obama hardly know each other–and besides, these days, Ayers is just another nutty professor.

That attitude is widely shared in Chicago, but it is not universal. Steve Chapman, a columnist for The Chicago Tribune, defended Mr. Obama’s relationship with the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., his longtime pastor, whose black liberation theology and “God damn America” sermon became notorious last spring. But he denounced Mr. Obama for associating with Mr. Ayers, whom he said the University of Illinois should never have hired.

“I don’t think there’s a statute of limitations on terrorist bombings,” Mr. Chapman said in an interview, speaking not of the law but of political and moral implications.

“If you’re in public life, you ought to say, ‘I don’t want to be associated with this guy,’ ” Mr. Chapman said. “If John McCain had a long association with a guy who’d bombed abortion clinics, I don’t think people would say, ‘That’s ancient history.’ ”

Stanley Kurtz, National Review notes that the NY Times campaign piece was a NYT’s Ayers-Obama Whitewash was changed–and was too obvious, even for the NYT “standards”.

The title of the article when it first appeared on the web last night was, “Obama Had Met Ayers, but the Two Are Not Close.” That was quickly changed to, “Obama and the ‘60′s Bomber: A Look Into Crossed Paths.” Perhaps the first headline made the paper’s agenda a bit too obvious.

Sarah Palin began the assault by addressing the subject first broached by Hillary Clinton: Obama’s chummy past relationship with domestic terrorist Ayers. Almost immediately, the Obama campaign, through the AP, put out a press release rebuttal disguised as a news story: Palin says Obama ‘palling around’ with terrorists.

In remarks to GOP donors in Englewood, Colo., on Saturday, Palin said Obama seems to see the U.S. as being so imperfect that, in her words, “he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country.”

Obama’s AP spokesperson, JIM KUHNHENN, defended Obama noting that “Obama served on a charity board with Ayers in Chicago and has denounced his past activities.”

But DBKP readers know that as far as Obama’s Ties to 1970’s Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers go, there is Disassociation and Little Condemnation

Kuhnhenn thought it of no import to mention that Obama announced his candidacy from Ayer’s home or that Ayers wrote the grant proposal for the program that Obama chaired.

Barack Obama would like people to believe that Bill Ayers is “just one of thousands of people that I know.” [Obama, Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers: The ‘Tangential’ Bill Ayers ]

But Kurtz points out that Ayers’ radicalism isn’t ancient history and that Obama presumably read and then reviewed a book by Bill Ayers in 1997.

Ayers’ radicalism isn’t something in the past. It’s something to which Obama gave moral and financial support as an adult. So when Shane says that Obama has never expressed sympathy for Ayers’ radicalism, he’s flat wrong. Obama’s funded it.

Obama was perfectly aware of Ayers’ radical views, since he read and publically endorsed, without qualification, Ayers’ book on juvenile crime. That book is quite radical, expressing doubts about whether we ought to have a prison system at all, comparing America to South Africa’s apartheid system, and contemptuously dismissing the idea of the United States as a kind or just country.

The MSM doesn’t mention Bill Ayers at all for months and suddenly, two separate stories appear–which downplay and defend both Ayers and Obama’s association with him–within 24 hours of each other? Just in time to defuse potentially-damaging McCain commercials scheduled for after the next debate this week?

What’s the chances?

Doesn’t sound like there’s any coordination between the Obama campaign and its allies in the press, does there?

The MSM is great for parroting the Obama campaign lines–and horrible when it comes to investigating the Chosen One. Obama is the Standard-bearer for over 90% of the people working in the MSM.

How about one or two tough questions for Obama?

Might not one MSM reporter be interested in Obama’s many anti-American associates? Might Obama have been influenced by any of them when he accused the American military of killing civilians last year? From Obama: US Troops in Afghanistan must do more than kill civilians:

Asked whether he would move U.S. troops out of Iraq to better fight terrorism elsewhere, he brought up Afghanistan and said, “We’ve got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we’re not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous pressure over there.”

No connection between the above Obama statement and Michelle Obama stating that she was never “proud of America” until her husband ran for president? No connection between the above statement and Obama’s pastor of twenty years announcing “God Damn America!” from the pulpit? No connection between the statement above and Bill Ayers’ announcing that “I realized…America was an evil… and that I was… living inside the belly of the beast….”?

Is Obama the Jack Murtha of the Senate?

There’s been much written in Big Media about how “historic” the selection of Barack Obama as the Democrat candidate has been. That would be right, but a quite different reason.

How many presidential candidates have ever had a buddy (Bill Ayers) who was awarded a ring from the North Vietmanese–while we were at war with them–made from down American airplanes?

The McCain-Palin campaign can run thousands of ads about Obama and his associates. But the McCain campaign will never have enough money to counter the never-ending, unceasing ads running in the MSM disguised as news stories.

All of this would be of little interest if Barack Obama were running for a local office in the Chicago area.

But Obama is running to become commander-in-chief of the United States and must swear an oath to defend the Constitution against “enemies, both foreign and domestic”.

Funny how a lot of Obama’s associates and family think that the enemy is the United States itself–and have publicly said so more than once.

The flacks and hacks that populate the Mainstream Media feel it is their job to explain it away.

All in the guise of objective “news” stories.

Wow! Somebody posted somewhere that maybe perhaps The Ayers babysat the Obama kids! THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!! William Ayers was a Weatherman….when Obama was eight years old.

Well, in the interest of fairness, I hope you will now run a story about Todd Palin, who by Sara Palin’s definition, also palled around with terrorists…the Alaska Independence Party. He was a card carrying member of that party until 2002, and hey, Palin sent a video tape to their convention last year.

McCain is shooting his wad, but instead, he’s shooting himself in the foot.

    PJ,

In all fairness, when the AIP starts bombing the Pentagon, we’ll run a HUGE expose of Todd Palin. The AIP are not terrorists and the first plank in their party platform.

    1. To effect full compliance with the constitutions of the United States of America and the State of Alaska.

In fact, 6 of the first 7 platforms of the AIP contain either “US constitution”, Alaska Constitution or the phrase “as according to the constitution.

    http://www.akip.org/platform.html

The Alaskan Independence Party is a political party in the U.S. state of Alaska that advocates a state vote which includes several options, including increased state autonomy, territorial status, becoming a separate nation or commonwealth state, and, failing that, for increased Alaskan control of Alaskan land, gun rights, privatization, home schooling, and reduction of governmental intrusion in the private lives of its citizens with adherence to the founding documents of the United States. The party has appeared on the ballot in Alaska in all state elections since 1970.

There’s no equating the Weather Underground and the AIP.

Barack Obama has made many statements which call into question his views on a number of traditional American ideas. On a few (the lapel flag pin, standing at attention during the National Anthem) , he’s changed his public image to better fit running for an office that will be voted on by a wider range of people than just his party.

With absolutely no record to judge Obama’s possible actions, looking at who he’s associated with and counts as his friends is a germane topic. It seems curious that so many of the people in his life have the outlook that the USA is a force for evil in the world–and have said so publicly.

The press will not address this subject–this leaves places like DBKP, by default. It would be nice if Time, the AP or Newsweek ran an investigative article, putting the information out there where Americans can judge for themselves. Like the John Edwards affair, they won’t–until they’re forced to. Hard-hitting investigative journalistic pieces about Obama are as prevalent as they were about John Edwards.

An investigative piece asking uncomfortable questions would expose millions of people to this subject. We have to do here thousands at a time. Instead of one article, we have to publish many.

    But we will.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by, read and comment.

Which is a polite way of saying never. So much for balanced journalism. Even Palin failed to note that the New York Times article she quoted from concluded that Obama’s “association” with Ayers was casual, at best.

Then let me point you to this:

“Palin’s Attack On Obama’s Patriotism Legitimizes Questions About The Palins’ Association With Group Founded By America-Hating Secessionist

By Greg Sargent – October 4, 2008, 4:55PM (Talking Point Memo)

Sarah Palin attacked Obama’s patriotism today over his association with former Weatherman Bill Ayers — a move that makes it perfectly legitimate to raise questions about the Palins’ associations with a group founded by an Alaska secessionist who once professed his “hatred for the American government” and cursed our “damn flag.”

In Colorado today, Palin seized on the big front-page New York Times story about Ayers and Obama, which concludes that the two men “do not appear to have been close,” to launch her most vicious attack yet on the Illinois Senator — a harbinger of what’s to come.

“This is not a man who sees America as you and I do — as the greatest force for good in the world,” Palin said. “This is someone who sees America as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country.”

If Palin is going to say this, it is now perfectly legitimate to point out that she repeatedly courted a secessionist group founded by someone who openly professed hatred of the American government, cursed our flag, and wanted to secede from the Union. Sarah’s husband, Todd Palin, was a member of this group, which continues to venerate that founder to this day, for years.

As you already know, the group is the Alaska Independence Party, which sees as its ultimate goal seceding from the union. Todd was a member, with a brief exception, from 1995 until 2002, according to the Division of Elections in Alaska.

And though Sarah Palin herself was apparently not a member of this group, there’s no doubt that she repeatedly courted this secessionist organization over the years. In 1994, Palin attended the group’s annual convention, according to witnesses who spoke to ABC News’ Jake Tapper. The McCain campaign has confirmed she visited the group’s 2000 convention, and she addressed its convention this year, as an incumbent governor whose oath of office includes upholding the Constitution of the United States.

The founder of the AIP was a man named Joe Vogler. Here’s what he had to say in a 1991 interview, only a few years before Palin attended its convention: “The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government.”

He also said this: “And I won’t be buried under their damn flag. I’ll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home.”

Vogler has also said: “I’m an Alaskan, not an American. I’ve got no use for America or her damned institutions.”

McCain apologists will argue that Sarah Palin was not a member of this group. But Obama wasn’t a member of any Ayers anti-American group, either. And again, Palin repeatedly courted the AIP, and her husband was a member for years.

The main takeaway from today’s Times story is that Obama’s ties to Ayers are, if anything, less substantial than commonly alleged. So if the Ayers association means Obama “palled around” with “terrorists,” as Palin put it today, surely Palin can be said to have “palled around” with a secessionist party whose founder openly professed hatred of America.

If Palin is going to directly question Obama’s patriotism over his association Ayers, surely all these facts are now fair game and freshly relevant.”

My main point is this: America has serious problems to contend with. We, the people, deserve to know how our candidates plan to solve these problems, or at least deal with them. Attacking Obama with this Ayers nonsense is just as idiotic as attacking Palin for her husband once belonging to the the AIP. It does nothing to elevate the conversation that America should be having. It just brings it to the gutter. And if this is all McCain can do this close to November 4th, instead of talking about the issues, it smacks of desperation.

“National Organization for Women PAC Endorses Obama-Biden

    STATEMENT OF KIM GANDY
Chair, National Organization for Women Political Action Committee (NOW PAC)

    September 16, 2008

It is with great enthusiasm that I announce today, on behalf of the nation’s oldest and largest women’s rights organization, that the National Organization for Women Political Action Committee (NOW PAC) proudly endorses Sen. Barack Obama for President of the United States.

It is no coincidence that I am joined in this announcement by so many allied organizations that collectively represent a broad and diverse cross-section of U.S. women. From teachers to social workers, from business owners to college students, women in this country are lining up behind the candidate who is out there every day standing up — clearly and consistently — for women. Women of all ages, races and ethnicities are coming together in support of Sen. Obama and his pledge to fulfill this country’s promise of equal opportunity for our daughters as well as all our sons.

Although it is very unusual for us to endorse in a presidential election, this is an unprecedented candidate and an unprecedented time for our country. The NOW PAC reviewed Sen. Obama’s record and public statements on issues that disproportionately affect the women of this nation, and I spoke with him at length about his commitment to women’s equality. For example:

On pay equity. Sen. Obama is a co-sponsor of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act, legislation to end wage discrimination against women.

On reproductive rights. Sen. Obama is a co-sponsor of the Prevention First Act, to strengthen access to contraception and reproductive health care, and prevent unwanted pregnancies. He strongly supports Roe v. Wade and will oppose any efforts to overturn it.

On violence against women. Sen. Obama supports the continued reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act — of which Sen. Joe Biden is the chief sponsor — as well as the Security and Financial Empowerment (SAFE) Act, which is legislation to provide legal, medical and financial support to victims of domestic violence.

On the Supreme Court. Sen. Obama opposed the nominations of George Bush’s extreme right-wing nominees to the Supreme Court, who have consistently ruled against women’s rights,

For more than a decade, Barack Obama has said “yes” to women’s rights, while John McCain has consistently said “no” – NO to pay equity, NO to contraceptive access and reproductive rights, NO to appointing Supreme Court judges who will uphold women’s rights and civil rights, NO to funding shelters and other anti-violence programs, and NO to supporting working moms and dads with policies that support work/life balance.

NOW supported Sen. Hillary Clinton in the primary, and now we join with her in saying “NO” — No Way, No How, No McCain! And we proudly stand arm-in-arm with her in putting our hopes and our dreams, our hard work and our hard-earned money, behind the next President of the United States — Barack Obama, and his running mate, longtime friend and ally of women, Sen. Joe Biden.

For more information, visit the NOW PAC Obama website.”

NOW PAC Supports Obama/Biden Ticket, Not Palin
On November 4th, California voters will go to the polls to cast their vote about the future of our state and our nation. The National Organization for Women Political Action Committee (NOW PAC) joined with many allied organizations representing a broad and diverse cross-section of U.S. women to endorse Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Both have long records of service, fighting to improve the rights of women, families, and working people. From voting rights to equal pay legislation to authoring and funding the Violence Against Women Act, it was clear to NOW PAC that the Obama/Biden ticket represents the best team for the kind of future we envision for women and girls.

A member and officer of the Los Angeles NOW chapter, Shelly Mandell, recently introduced Governor Sarah Palin at an event in Carson, California. Ms. Mandell was speaking as an individual and was not authorized to represent NOW, the NOW PAC or LA NOW in any capacity in connection with a federal candidate endorsement. As NOW President Kim Gandy said upon Palin’s selection , “Not every woman supports women’s rights.”

The use of Shelly Mandell’s Los Angeles NOW title was apparently intended to mislead the public, and indeed has resulted in local television outlets and internet reports misstating that LA NOW has “endorsed” Sarah Palin or that she has a record of supporting women’s rights. This in fact is not the case.

As President of California NOW and as a member and officer of Los Angeles NOW, I can assure you that there is no local or state affiliate of NOW, including LA NOW, which endorses or supports the McCain/Palin ticket. John McCain and Sarah Palin oppose many of the rights and freedoms we have fought for throughout NOW’s 42 years, and we will not be pushed back to the days of back-alley abortions, forced pregnancies, and pay discrimination without remedy.

Nor will we let the media distractions deter our members and activists from our organizing for freedom and equality for all women, putting our hopes and our dreams, our hard work and our hard-earned money, behind a proven team for women: the next President of the United States – Barack Obama – and his running mate, longtime friend and ally of women, Sen. Joe Biden With equal ferocity we will fight to protect young women by defeating Proposition 4 and to keep bigotry and discrimination out of our state constitution by defeating Proposition 8 here in California.

Babak Hussein Obama has toooooooooo many strange bed fellows for me to trust hin with the position of President Of the United States of America. The fact that he and his strange bedfellows aren’t questioned is appaling. The fact that he votes present lets me know that he does attend congressional voting but that he does not want me to know where he stands on several issues, and no I haven’t read his two books. Bidden was picked for his experience on foreign policy. Barak has street smarts that he developed while in Chicago with Tony Rezko. Last but not least was CNN News piece on Obama’s $800,000 contribution to ACORN which gave 1.3 milloin votes to Barak. Louis Farakhan calls him the new messiah, you tube has the whitey tapes to prove how Michelle was not proud of America until he husband was nominated and that they both look down on all whites. He won’t say the pledge of alligence or wear a flag pin on his lapel. Is Obama really a citizen of the USA or of Africa? Is his not being investigated because he’s half black? While I realize he has street smatrs and Bidden, is three years as a senator enough Experience? I’m going to start praying for the security of America!!!!!!! Charlene

This story is really getting tired. According to the Associated Press, Obama and Ayers are not close: “No evidence shows they were “pals” or even close when they worked on community boards years ago …” (http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D93KD6Q00&show_article=1)

Saying something over and over doesn’t make it true. Smear groups and now the McCain campaign are trying desperately to connect Obama to acts Ayers committed 40 years ago – when Barack was just eight years old. Here’s what the New York Times reported on the connection (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/04/us/politics/04ayers.html)

But the two men do not appear to have been close. Nor has Mr. Obama ever expressed sympathy for the radical views and actions of Mr. Ayers, whom he has called “somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8.”

Barack has publicly denounced Ayers’ radical actions from the 1960′s (http://blog.washingtonpost.com/fact-checker/2008/02/obamas_weatherman_connection.html):

Senator Obama strongly condemns the violent actions of the Weathermen group, as he does all acts of violence. But he was an eight-year-old child when Ayers and the Weathermen were active, and any attempt to connect Obama with events of almost forty years ago is ridiculous.

“Senator Obama strongly condemns the actions of the Weatherman group…”?

Seems the strongest condemnation would have been not to accept the job Ayers hired him for (Chicago Annenberg Challenge), don’t announce your campaign from his home and don’t work with him for over six years dispensing money for him.

“Just a guy in my neighborhood”, “just one of thousands of people I know”, “crossed paths” (NY Times): all dishonest characterizations of a another Obama anti-American associate.

We have not tried to connect Obama with Bill Ayers and events that happened over 40 years ago.

We’re connecting him from the period Obama got involved in politics in the Chicago area from 1996 until 2005, when Obama says he quit texting and having phone conversations with Ayers.
