“The difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick.”
–Sarah Palin, RNC Speech

Sarah Palin

In a speech full of memorable one-liners and highlights, we picked what we thought were the top 25 quotes from Sarah Palin’s RNC speech in Minneapolis, MN.

ALSO at DBKP: Video: Sarah Palin’s Speech at Minneapolis, MN

* A writer observed: “We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty, sincerity, and dignity.” I know just the kind of people that writer had in mind when he praised Harry Truman.

I grew up with those people. They are the ones who do some of the hardest work in America … who grow our food, run our factories, and fight our wars. They love their country, in good times and bad, and they’re always proud of America. I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town.

* I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone.

But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion — I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country. Americans expect us to go to Washington for the right reasons, and not just to mingle with the right people.

* My fellow citizens, the American presidency is not supposed to be a journey of “personal discovery.” This world of threats and dangers is not just a community, and it doesn’t just need an organizer.

* Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America’s energy problems — as if we all didn’t know that already. But the fact that drilling won’t solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all.

* Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown.
And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a “community organizer,” except that you have actual responsibilities.

* To confront the threat that Iran might seek to cut off nearly a fifth of world energy supplies … or that terrorists might strike again at the Abqaiq facility in Saudi Arabia … or that Venezuela might shut off its oil deliveries … we Americans need to produce more of our own oil and gas. And take it from a gal who knows the North Slope of Alaska: we’ve got lots of both.

* …there is much to like and admire about our opponent.

But listening to him speak, it’s easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state Senate.

* In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change.

* And though both Senator Obama and Senator Biden have been going on lately about how they are always, quote, “fighting for you,” let us face the matter squarely.

There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you … in places where winning means survival and defeat means death … and that man is John McCain.

* I might add that in small towns, we don’t quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren’t listening. We tend to prefer candidates who don’t talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco.

* I came to office promising major ethics reform, to end the culture of self-dealing. And today, that ethics reform is the law.

While I was at it, I got rid of a few things in the governor’s office that I didn’t believe our citizens should have to pay for. That luxury jet was over the top. I put it on eBay. I also drive myself to work.

And I thought we could muddle through without the governor’s personal chef — although I’ve got to admit that sometimes my kids sure miss her. I came to office promising to control spending — by request if possible and by veto if necessary.

* It was just a year ago when all the experts in Washington counted out our nominee because he refused to hedge his commitment to the security of the country he loves.

With their usual certitude, they told us that all was lost — there was no hope for this candidate who said that he would rather lose an election than see his country lose a war. But the pollsters and pundits overlooked just one thing when they wrote him off. They overlooked the caliber of the man himself — the determination, resolve, and sheer guts of Senator John McCain. The voters knew better.

* And in April, my husband Todd and I welcomed our littlest one into the world, a perfectly beautiful baby boy named Trig. From the inside, no family ever seems typical.

That’s how it is with us. Our family has the same ups and downs as any other … the same challenges and the same joys.

* I pledge to all Americans that I will carry myself in this spirit as vice president of the United States. This was the spirit that brought me to the governor’s office, when I took on the old politics as usual in Juneau … when I stood up to the special interests, the lobbyists, big oil companies, and the good ol’ boys network.

* Sometimes even the greatest joys bring challenge. And children with special needs inspire a special love.

To the families of special-needs children all across this country, I have a message: For years, you sought to make America a more welcoming place for your sons and daughters. I pledge to you that if we are elected, you will have a friend and advocate in the White House.

* Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we’re going to lay more pipelines … build more nuclear plants … create jobs with clean coal … and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal and other alternative sources.

We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers.

* My Mom and Dad both worked at the elementary school in our small town. And among the many things I owe them is one simple lesson: that this is America, and every woman can walk through every door of opportunity. My parents are here tonight, and I am so proud to be the daughter of Chuck and Sally Heath.

* This is a man [Barack Obama] who can give an entire speech about the wars America is fighting, and never use the word “victory” except when he’s talking about his own campaign. But when the cloud of rhetoric has passed … when the roar of the crowd fades away … when the stadium lights go out, and those Styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot - what exactly is our opponent’s plan? What does he actually seek to accomplish, after he’s done turning back the waters and healing the planet? The answer is to make government bigger … take more of your money … give you more orders from Washington … and to reduce the strength of America in a dangerous world. America needs more energy … our opponent is against producing it.

* …I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending: nearly half a billion dollars in vetoes. I suspended the state fuel tax, and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress.

I told the Congress “thanks, but no thanks,” for that Bridge to Nowhere. If our state wanted a bridge, we’d build it ourselves. When oil and gas prices went up dramatically, and filled up the state treasury, I sent a large share of that revenue back where it belonged — directly to the people of Alaska.

* Victory in Iraq is finally in sight … he wants to forfeit. Terrorist states are seeking new-clear weapons without delay … he wants to meet them without preconditions.

Al-Qaida terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America … he’s worried that someone won’t read them their rights? Government is too big … he wants to grow it.

Congress spends too much … he promises more. Taxes are too high … he wants to raise them.

- - - - -

* The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes … raise payroll taxes … raise investment income taxes … raise the death tax … raise business taxes … and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars. My sister Heather and her husband have just built a service station that’s now opened for business — like millions of others who run small businesses.

How are they going to be any better off if taxes go up? Or maybe you’re trying to keep your job at a plant in Michigan or Ohio … or create jobs with clean coal from Pennsylvania or West Virginia … or keep a small farm in the family right here in Minnesota.

* Harry Reid, the Majority Leader of the current do-nothing Senate, not long ago summed up his feelings about our nominee.

He said, quote, “I can’t stand John McCain.” Ladies and gentlemen, perhaps no accolade we hear this week is better proof that we’ve chosen the right man. Clearly what the Majority Leader was driving at is that he can’t stand up to John McCain. That is only one more reason to take the maverick of the Senate and put him in the White House.

* A fellow prisoner of war, a man named Tom Moe of Lancaster, Ohio, recalls looking through a pinhole in his cell door as Lieutenant Commander John McCain was led down the hallway, by the guards, day after day.

As the story is told, “When McCain shuffled back from torturous interrogations, he would turn toward Moe’s door and flash a grin and thumbs up” — as if to say, “We’re going to pull through this.” My fellow Americans, that is the kind of man America needs to see us through these next four years.

For a season, a gifted speaker can inspire with his words. For a lifetime, John McCain has inspired with his deeds.

* Sudden and relentless reform never sits well with entrenched interests and power brokers. That’s why true reform is so hard to achieve. But with the support of the citizens of Alaska, we shook things up. And in short order we put the government of our state back on the side of the people.

So go on an Obama site and rip on him if that’s the case. There’s certainly plenty of material.

It’s weird - I’ve never gone to an exclusively liberal site to post, but on every single conservative site, there’s liberals writing post after post; usually with dopey slogans or hateful insults.

It’s okay Amber, it’s a free country - but, bashing someone who is constantly brutally attacked by every media outlet for things which have nothing to do with her qualifications or natural talents, is going along with the mob mentality. Sarah Palin is not afraid to go against that - and that’s a very rare, if non-existent quality to possess these days, particularly for a politician.

Sarah Palin is one of the most terrifying prospects this country has ever faced - and we do face a strong chance that, if McCain is elected, Palin will become our president - the man’s 417 years old, with a history of cancer. I understand that she’s folksy and cute (although I swear to God if she refers to the American public as Joe Six-Pack again, I will cry), but no matter how much of a staunch Republican one may be, can you honestly say you feel comfortable with her as the highest power in our land? Can you imagine how far her little folksy sayings will get her with heads of state - the ones that she would actually concede to even speak to, that is. She certainly seems to me more mascot than quarterback.

And, as an aside, McCain has come out with some pretty harsh ads lately. One of them hammers the fact that Obama has voted for tax increase over 90 times.

Your candidate has voted for them over 400.

    That’s all.

Thank you for posting this list.

In the vice presidential debate, Sarah sounded very unsure of herself. She seemed to be searching to recall a viewpoint, or perhaps some point the team had coached her on. She had no specifics to offer, just vague platitudes about being for the American people. When she said, “There you go again, Joe.” that sounded very rehearsed and poorly recited. In one of the Katie Couric interviews, she could not even name one newspaper that she reads! How can you be that uninformed and become a governor, or even a small town mayor?

I like Joe Biden. He named specifics about John McCain’s voting record and what he and Barack plan to do to help middle class families. Plus he’s a superb speaker.

Sakura, what are you trying to accomplish? You have posted several crude comments. You’re just waving your lack of social skills around to everyone and you’re adding to the stereotype that Republicans have no respect for people who hold different opinions. I don’t often agree with Rush Limbaugh, but he had a great point when he said, “Some people just aren’t ready to be part of polite, adult society.” Why is it not possible for you to express your opinions and be nice about it?

    Anthony Stratton,

Actually, how Palin did in the debate was in the eye of the beholder.

I like Joe Biden. He named specifics about John McCain’s voting record and what he and Barack plan to do to help middle class families. Plus he’s a superb speaker.

I look at any five randomly-selected YouTube videos on Biden, and a handy reference to a history book or Google will put the lie to Biden being a superb speaker. Fact checking the guy is a 24/7 job.

AOL News released a story listing 14 factual “inaccuracies” in Biden’s answers, including his “clean coal” remarks. What he said in the debate was 180 degrees different than what he told audiences in Ohio just days before. Coming from a coal region, people remember exactly what Joe Biden said about coal.

Many will vote based on what Biden said about “no coal plants in America–they’re too dirty! Let them build them in China!”

The United Mine Workers union bosses have another altogether view and have endorsed Biden. But then, that’s no surprise: the UMWA has endorsed Dem candidates almost as often as the DNC.

Thanks for stopping by, reading and commenting!

I haven’t called anyone a ‘racist’ or ‘white trash’ like Diane - do you expect me not to take offense with that nonsense? Some of the posts I’ve responded to were petty and insulting without any valid point to make about the issues. Like I said above - “It’s a Free Country” - which applies to all of us, so please extend me the same courtesy. As for Rush Limbaugh - I do not think that quote applies to me arguing with liberal mantras - I think he would be all for that.

A quick study of history (of the world or US) will provide evidence that respect from foreign leaders does not come from flowery words.

    It comes from national strength.

All Obama followers must be aware of Chairman Mao’s famous words: “Change must come through the barrel of a gun.”

The point is she has no strengths and nationally we are weakened, to a fault of taking on too many missions at once. Obama is willing to Fight for us but is not willing to continue something that should have never been started in the first place. His also not willing to continue to drain us as nation financially and make others rich at our expense. Why was there no response to Palin’s or McCain’s education?? Or his health?? There are so many faults on this ticket I would suggest a Change in the way your party is thinking when they choose canidates..

    Micci,

I would advise against making assumptions, chief of which “your party”–having been a registered Independent since I was 18.

No response to Palin’s or McCain’s education?

Where and for long Palin and McCain attended college does not interest me as much as their views and their willingness to work for them. Just as I’m sure that you’d support Obama, even if his only education was gained while attending High School.

Unlike a lot of sites, I encourage many viewpoints in the comments section. That’s doesn’t mean that I will debunk contrary ones line-by-line, including yours. Most, I allow to pass without comment from me; I don’t have to agree with them to like the fact that people of opposing viewpoints post comments here…it contributes to the discussion.

Occasionally, however, I will respond to something I think is particularly interesting or not too well-thought-out. Your comment on where national strength originates and what it is that foreign leaders respect, happened to catch my attention at a time when I had a few spare moments.

As a former teacher, I have a respect for education, not a slavish devotion to it. As I used to tell those who lamented not finishing college: It’s no big deal. Almost anyone that wants to put the time in and has the money can get a college degree.’

I used to write technical articles and present technical sessions in the 90s. I often got asked the question, “Where did you get your engineering degree from?” My research was done in my private lab and gleaned from reading. Because I didn’t study engineering didn’t invalidate my information or presentations.

Education comes from many different experiences, of which college is merely one.

I did some reasearch. As mayor of Wasilla, Sarah Palin raised taxes 33% and spending 38%. She fired most of her experienced administrators and hired new, inexperienced people who would be indebted to her for their jobs. She spent $50,000 remodeling her office without asking the city council.

She started a project to build an athletic center without checking that the city had clear title to the land. That mistake cost the city $1.5 million in legal fees and was still in litigation 7 years later. When she started her term as mayor, the city had no debt. When she left 6 years later, Wasilla was $22 million in debt!

She wanted rape victims to pay for their own medical exams, but Ted Knowles, the then governor, overruled her. She fired the librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, for refusing to ban books. Mary Ellen was reinstated after a public uproar. She quit 2 years later, saying that it was just too stressful to work with Sarah Palin.

“reasearch” is not research if you throw in your own opinion in whenever it caters to your view. you forgot to include that under Palin’s leadership, Alaska invested more than $5 billion in state savings, increased education funding, and implemented the Senior Benefits Program that provides support for low-income older Alaskans. She also reconstructed the health plans to suit Alaskan’s wallets.

Next time, research the whole story. Not just the past.

    Anthony,

It’s always great when readers do some research! It’s a practice that should be encouraged.

Of course, the rape kit story has been debunked, so you might want to leave that off the list of reasons to fear Sarah Palin. As has the banning books canard. As for the “too stressful” claim of the librarian: if only more people in government would feel some sort of stress. But, that’s just my own personal opinion.

When I get the time, checking out the rest of your list will probably be a good project.

But, I am glad that readers are interested enough in learning that they’ll look for more info–regardless of whether I agree with it or not.

Here’s a simply montra: state your sources.

You say that the rape kit and book banning incideds have been debunked. According to the Associate Press who ran the story, they haven’t. They also haven’t printed a retraction. I suppose we ought to believe you because… well, because you say the stories are all bunk.

I suppose the other items the Press printed, such as Sarah Palin being found in violation of the Alaskian Ethics Laws (10/13/08 edition) in a 300 page report for doing many things such as allowing her husband in on meetings, including him in emails, allowing officals to accept his orders and so on and so on. That’s right, she’s not even Vice President (or President) yet and she’s all ready broken the law. Sounds like she’s perfect material for a politician.

And if you haven’t, listening to her speeches and drinking when you hear “maverick” “hockey mom” or “Joe six-pack” will get you really toasted, really quick. Though the phrase “Joe six-pack” is another means of saying John Q. Public, someone ought to tell her that according to the Weight-control Information Network, 70.5% of men in the United States are overweight or obese. The CDC states that over 35% of males in the United States are obese. She SHOULD be talking to “Joe lard-ass”.

You’ve ’suffered’ eh? You already live in a very socialist country - isn’t that what you want? I’m asking not to be rude, I simply don’t know. America has caused you to suffer though? You’re an armchair American offering your opinion on our political system and our leaders, and we’ve caused you to suffer? Try not reading / believing the biased Associated Press for starters. That will bring your headaches down a notch. Then don’t patronize our shopping malls and medical specialists because that might cause you to ponder your own tax and health systems. Lastly, to minimize the suffering that we have caused you, try to remember that, whenever you need help, whether in the light of day or darkest night, America is and has been your strongest Ally come what may. See ya at the border.

    Mr. Roseland,

Sources (easy enough to Google, but I’ll do it for you).

There are others than FactCheck.org, but that seems to settle any issue for some.

    http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/did_sarah_palin_make_rape_victims_pay.html

2000, complaints about this practice in rural cities including Wasilla prompted the Alaska Legislature to pass a bill preventing alleged victims of sexual assault from being billed for forensic tests. It was signed into law by then-Gov. Tony Knowles. Palin had been the mayor of Wasilla for four years at the time, and a local paper reported that the Wasilla police chief, Charlie Fannon, defended the practice, saying he had billed women and their insurance companies for these tests rather than placing a “burden” on taxpayers:

Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman (May 23, 2000): “In the past we’ve charged the cost of exams to the victim’s insurance company when possible. I just don’t want to see any more burden put on the taxpayer,” Fannon said.

According to Fannon, the new law will cost the Wasilla Police Department approximately $5,000 to $14,000 a year to collect evidence for sexual assault cases.

Palin wasn’t quoted in any news coverage at the time. More recently, after she was picked to be Sen. John McCain’s vice presidential running mate, her spokeswoman Maria Comella told USA Today that the governor “does not believe, nor has she ever believed, that rape victims should have to pay for an evidence-gathering test.”

I’ll list our story on the Ethics Law (”TrooperGate”)–the sources are linked in it.

Sarah Palin Probe: MSM Misleads Public on Key Details

The Associated Press is a good source for stories such as an auto accident. On political stories, they are less reliable.

Yes, I’ve suffered. As have you, unless your car runs on weapons of unfound mass destruction. Unless you don’t know any of the over 4100 soliders killed or the over 30,000 wounded for life. Just because you don’t know you haven’t suffered doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened. I’m not an Americian anything, unless you want to refer to my North Americian status, but it’s hard to tell with citizens of the United States who often refer as America to mean the United States. Surprise, surprise, there are north and south varities and Americans come in nearly as many flavors as Basken Robins.

As for the Assosciated Press issue, it’s funny how as soon as a publication prints something that’s unflattering to the Republican party it’s automatically biased. I don’t recall saying it gave me a headache. Certainly not in my previous post and certain not when I read pro-McCain and anti-Obama articles. As Fox News pointed out, since Newsweek didn’t airbrush Palin on it’s cover, like they do for supermodels when selling stuff, Newsweek is therefore a biased magazine and you’ll have to cancel your subscriptions.

FYI, for the first time in my long life, the Canadian dollar is worth more than the United States dollar. If I didn’t live in the United States, I wouldn’t go to your shopping malls (to buy products made in China, since corporations have been given the Republican go ahead to move jobs out of the country.) As for the health care, you really oughtn’t speak about what you don’t know about. As someone that’s experienced the Canadian health care system and the United States version thereof, I can tell you first hand which is better and I’ll give you a clue: you lose. I paid less for eye surgery in Canada than I did to get one perscription filled in the States. You want to talk about Socialisum like it’s the Communist red flag, but you haven’t experienced it and the Republician party is the one that suggested privatizing retirement. I can see where this is going — socialized police care and fire departments. Don’t carry insurance? To bad, you get mugged (or worse) or your home burns down.

Yes, my mind spins at the number of times Canada’s needed the United States army to help it out. Being allies or not has no bearing on this conversation, so I’m surprised why you brought it up. Allow me to finish that thought for you though: the War of 1812. You might remember that from History, because Canadians do. That’s the war you guys started and we finished by burning down the White House. You’re welcome, Ally.

For one, age shouldn’t matter. Two, have you ever been a POW? I think not. So before you go off making assumptions about McCain being “too old”, think about what he has done for our country in the past. He was held for what? almost 8yrs or so as a POW (Prisoner of War).

Please tell me the experience Obama has had. NONE. He didn’t even go to college. I’m not discriminating against his religion but if you’re going to run a country, don’t you think you shoudl at least respect their flag & their “theme” song by doing what every other president has done? I think so. It’s disrespectful to not put your right hand over your heart during The Star Spangled Banner. I think it’s also disrespectful to not wear your flag pin.

So don’t bring age into this, look at all the OTHER big issues. Obama is democratic. Democrats talk about lowering taxes. Um, no. More social programs means HIGHER taxes. And the whole thing about pulling the soldiers out of Iraq within 16 months, that’s ridiculous & stupid. If he pulls our soldiers out within 16 months or shorter, all that will do is make Iraq start stuff over here because we pulled out.

My brother is over in Iraq, so I know what goes on. I am not going to sit here & down talk Obama, don’t get me wrong, he’s a great speaker but now is NOT the time for a black president & now is not the time for a woman president.

Sooner or later, we’ll be ready for both but not now. McCain is the one I’m voting for.

    Two words: Wardrobe Gate.

After getting caught spending campaign money on Palin so she can get some outfits from the most expensive outlets, they stated they were going to donate the clothing to charity. So basicly, they wasted your money (I say your money, because I certainly didn’t donate to the Republician party.and if you didn’t either, then congradulations.) Not because they spent it on clothes, regardless of the bill McCain put forward to stop spending just like that, but because what is Salvation Army going to do with $75,062 spent at Neiman Marcus. Other expenses include a romper and hat with ears for Palin’s baby. Spending money earmarked on getting them elected and using it to buy clothes and baby stuff.

But, hey! They’re going to give it back. Probably the $4,100 dollars spent on haircut and makeup. You know, scoop it right from her cheeks and put it back into the containers.

150,000 dollars on clothes. Does that sound like any hockey mom you know? Because I don’t know any like that. Especially when they all ready HAVE a job. I guess governor saleries have been cut pretty sharply, huh?

And before we hear the Republicans whine about how unfair it is to pick on someone based on what they spent, I’ll remind you possessing short-term memories about last year’s news worthy event: John Edwards spends 200$ (of his own money, HE didn’t spend other’s money) on a haircut. Both stories are from msnbc.

And Alison, if you don’t want a black president (racist), and you don’t want a woman president (sexist), then you’re out of luck. From what I’ve read, McCain’s had at least two surgeries for skin cancer. And the job of the VP, so they tell us, is to stand in when the President bites it, chances could be he might.

If they’re smart (and who am I to question the intelligence of a Republician) instead of donating the clothing, they’ll SELL it on eBay. Let YOU folk fight over it in bids. Then you take THAT money and donate it to charity. Dibs on that idea. I say that because soon after I made the comment about “Joe six-pack” your party switched to “Joe plumber”.

Well first of all, I’m not racist or sexist. I am a young woman and I would love to have a woman president. I would love to have a black president but Obama nor Hilary are the people at this time. And before you go off calling someone FOLK, my friend, how bout think about where they come from. I don’t have a lot of money but I do not buy my clothes off Ebay like you. And another thing, you’re wrong about Palin, whenever she gets done using those high-dollar suits and other clothes, she is giving them to charity thank you very much. Watch the news before you get on here blabbing your mouth.

Don’t underestimate me you sexist pig. You think you’re all-that because you have SO much knowledge. I bet you’re just an 18 year old teenager using the username as a professor. So therefore, like I said, watch the news before you get on here blabbing your unknowledged mouth.

First of all, Obama did go to college. He went to Occidental College, then transferred to Columbia before finally graduating from a little place called Harvard. Maybe you’ve heard of it?

And Democrats don’t talk about lowering taxes – they talk about raising taxes for certain levels of income (such as those who can afford it) while providing relief for those of us who can’t. Now, I know no one likes to pay taxes, but a lot of those things that silly old taxes pay for you and I both use – they put roads down and provide education and medical research and military funding and all sorts of other things that we have to have, like it or not.

As for pulling the soliders out of Iraq in 16 months, well…why not? We’ve trained them, they have an army, a government, a police force, and a surplus of plenty of money in their treasury. I agree that putting a definitive time limit on it is a bit overreaching, but giving us a time-oriented goal to work towards is not. I understand that the situation is volatile, fragile…but it always has been, and whether we stay there for 16 more months or 16 more years, it’s probably not going to change.

I am the daughter of a soldier who served 3 tours in Vietnam as a paratrooper. I am the younger sister of a soldier who recently returned from his 2nd tour. I am the older sister of a soldier who is getting ready for his 1st tour. And I am the wife of a United States Marine. I haven’t seen my husband in 8 months - he’s on his 3rd tour. (All of them, by the way, support Obama, in case you were wondering – as do many of my husband’s colleagues, and the wives of those colleagues.) And still that doesn’t make me the expert on war that you claim to be.

It does, however, give me the right to be angry when I hear McCain blithely say that he’d keep troops over there for 100 years, or jokingly sing about bombing Iran. I dare anyone to look me in the eye and say, with honesty, that you’d be willing to have your husband, your brother, your son or daughter fight in a dirty war indefinitely. And even if you were silly enough to do so, I’d think you were a liar. You can be proud of the men and women in Iraq and still want the war to end, you know. Loving the troops and hating war are not mutually exclusive. In fact, I’d say they sort of go hand-in-hand.

And you can say you aren’t racist, but to claim that this country isn’t ready for a black president smacks of blatant racism. Maybe you aren’t ready for one, but please don’t presume to speak for me. I am more than ready.

And before you attack me on age, race, sex or education, I’ll tell you that I am 27, Caucasian, female and I hold a bachelor’s degree…pretty much your run-of-the-mill kind of person.

Also, I want to say that I love my country. I was raised by a man who loved his country enough to spend his life serving it, and I love my county enough that I was proud to marry a man who loves his country enough to do what my father did, and what my brothers are now doing. It is because I love my country that I am voting for Obama.

McCain is erratic. I don’t know if it’s age or what…but he was a much different man 8 years ago, and I think we would have been in much better shape now today if he had won then. (And even better if Gore had gotten it.) But Sarah Palin is just silly, you guys. Come on, admit it.

    GO VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your anger may be abated if you’d 1) check multiple sources. I’m sure I’ve never heard McCain’s statement described as “blithely”. He declined to set a time table–the “100-year comment” was not a commitment. We’ll cover the statement in a future story for “the historical record”.

Thanks for taking the time to read, comment and stop by.

Well if you want my HONEST opinion; I am NOT racist. Before you go off callin me racist, maybe you need to know that i have a full black step-grandfather & a mixed aunt. So to cover that stupid comment you’ve made.

& I am also the younger sister of a man that is serving his time in Iraq. I am an ex/best friend of a man that is also serving his 1st tour in Iraq. So I know how it feels to have loved ones over there.

So to be honest, I don’t care if Obama is the President Elect or King, he didn’t get my vote. I don’t care what you say or how you say it, judge all you want but just know that in the end, God will be the only one who can judge me.

I haven’t judged Obama on his race, sex, etc. I’ve clearly stated the FACTS that I know are true.

So say what you want to say, the best part is, I don’t care.

    How you like them apples?

I am a redneck. I was born & raised in the great outdoors called the country & I take GREAT pride in my country.

You make me laugh a little, roll my eyes a little, and shake my head a lot.

I don’t care what your family lineage is - to say that this country is not ready for a potential presidential candidate based on his or her skin color or gender is racist and sexist. We can argue this point until we’re both blue in the face, but since I imagine your argument will be a repetitive “No I ain’t – some of my best friends are black!” that this would be a waste of time.

For the record, I never called you racist. I said your claim that this country isn’t ready for a black president is racist. Scroll up and check if you need.

I understood that you have a brother in Iraq, and, apparently an “ex-best friend” which seems a tenuous relationship, but yes, I get it that you know what it is like to have loved ones in Iraq. I never argued that point. As I said, I have two brothers over there, as well as my husband – that is something that you can’t understand, and I certainly don’t expect you to. What I didn’t understand was how you seemed to believe that having a brother over in Iraq makes you an expert on war, or privy to the situation in the Middle East. Having loved ones at war doesn’t qualify you to speak on how the war should be handled – it qualifies you to speak on what it’s like to have loved ones in the war. That was my point.

And you did judge Obama on his race, ma’am – you did it for the entire country by saying we weren’t ready for a black president. Perhaps you should think about what you post on the internet before posting it, because it’s hard to deny something once it’s in print. As far as stating “FACTS” that you “know are true,” perhaps you need a lesson on the difference between what is factual versus what is opinion, and what is true versus what is not. You stated that Obama didn’t go to college – that would be a fact, except that it isn’t true. You stated that “now is NOT the time for a black president & now is not the time for a woman president.” That is an opinion – something that you yourself belief is true but is not factual…especially considering we elected Obama.

And you must care about what I said, otherwise, why would you have posted a comment defending yourself…which I commend you for – I just wish that you would do it in a more respectful and literate manner. I, for one, never called any of your comments stupid. Many of them are, however, ignorant.

As far as being a redneck, which you somehow think proves your patriotism…well, it takes all kinds. I’m glad you were raised in the great outdoors and that you love your country. I was raised on various military installations throughout the U.S., and have spent the majority of my married life on one, so I submit that I do know a thing or two about loving my country as well.

So, do I like your apples? Well, I’d probably like them better if they had some thought and substance behind them.

Barack Obama is not the first black President, his mother was white and his father was black, thus he is the first bi-racial President. You split such ”inconvenient truths” to further lies and manipulation.

Its not that these Obama posters are stupid, they are simply reacting as MTV and sporting events have taught them, they think this election was nothing more than the placement of a black president. They do not recognize the stakes, e.g. First 100 Days: a. Obama says don’t talk to Limbaugh, but talk to the Taliban, the Russians and Cuba; b. Obama promises to lift the missle defense shield in exchange for help with Iran thereby endangering millions of Europeans and the Middle East; c. Obama wants to lift the embragoes and trade restrictions on Cuba; d. Obama wants to close Guantamano Bay Prisons and end the war in Iraq just for the sake of ending it; e. Obama overturns the Stem Cell Research Ban even though all of our primary ethicists, moralists and religionists say it is wrong; f. Hillary Clinton’s first trip was to beg the Chinese for more money while saying human rights was a non-issue in the face of an economic crisis. Obama clearly serves a different master than Christianity as evidenced by his first 100 days.

Next post: Satan thanks Obama for all of his hard work.

P.S. Let’s not forget the Obama eligibility question and whether or not he was really born in Kenya. What kind of person seals records required for appointment by four different law firms, e.g. one expert believes the reason he sealed his college transcripts is because it will show 2 things: 1. He is listed as a Muslim; and 2. He accepted a scholarship as a foreign exchange student.
