The story John Edwards presented one week ago, August 8, on ABC’s Nightline has been falling apart.
It’s completely demolished with this photo just obtained by DBKP. It also raises new questions about how much Elizabeth Edwards knew about the affair and when.
From John Edwards’ August 8 statement:
In 2006, I made a serious error in judgment and conducted myself in a way that was disloyal to my family and to my core beliefs. I recognized my mistake and I told my wife that I had a liaison with another woman, and I asked for her forgiveness. Although I was honest in every painful detail with my family, I did not tell the public. When a supermarket tabloid told a version of the story, I used the fact that the story contained many falsities to deny it. But being 99 percent honest is no longer enough.
I was and am ashamed of my conduct and choices, and I had hoped that it would never become public. With my family, I took responsibility for my actions in 2006 and today I take full responsibility publicly. But that misconduct took place for a short period in 2006. It ended then.
The above statement was released to the press hours before John Edwards appeared on Nightline to “confess” his involvement in an affair with Rielle Hunter.
Edwards disappeared from public view after a July 30 speech in Washington, D.C., where he had to evade reporters seeking to question him about the his confrontation with reporters from the National Enquirer.

Edwards had been caught on July 22 by The National Enquirer’s reporters attempting to leave the Beverly Hilton after meeting with Rielle Hunter and their daughter, Frances Quinn Hunter.
He would be secluded for ten days–until the August 8 statement and Nightline appearance.
One assumes that his wife, Elizabeth–according to many reports “a smart attorney”–had seen John Edwards’ statement before he released it to the press.
Edwards said that “With my family, I took responsibility for my actions in 2006″. The above photo was taken on December 30, 2006. In attendance at the event were also Edwards’ three children, who took the stage with Elizabeth Edwards at one point, as well as John Edwards’ parents, Wallace and Bobbie Edwards.
As Patricia, the reader who sent DBKP the above photo–as well as other photos–observed: “If Edwards had discussed his affair with his family and they had begun their “healing process” in 2006, it was not evident on December 30. They must have had a very busy New Year’s Eve.”

The above photo was taken in the backstage area of the Edwards rally.
Although other photos have surfaced in the last several days that show Edwards and Hunter together at the end of 2006, this is the first photo that places John Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth together with Hunter at the same time and place–one day before 2006 ended.
Mickey Kaus, at Slate, asked yesterday [How Big a Victim is Elizabeth?]:
Let me raise the alternative, third possibility contained in B(ii): there is a Second Coverup and Elizabeth Edwards, rather than being its victim, is in on it up to her eyeballs! ** Why do I think this is a real possibility? First, Elizabeth was in on the first coverup, allowing her husband to go out and deny the initial Enquirer reports of his affair. (He admits to Woodruff that she knew these denials were false,) Second, she might see her legacy as bound up with her husband’s–and also want her children to have a father with a political future.*** Third, Elizabeth Edwards is famously smart, and a lawyer. Does still she really think the Enquirer is just making up the part about how Edwards’ affair with Hunter restarted around the time Hunter got pregnant? Does she think her husband knew nothing about the payments?
In his footnote to the above, Kaus notes that, “She [Elizabeth Edwards] could still be anguished!”
The photo above seems to support Kaus’ “alternative, third possibility” quoted above.
We will have more to say on this–and other allegations that Edwards made in his August 8 statement and ABC interview–later in the day. DBKP will also release at least one more of the pictures we now have from the event pictured above.
Until then, new questions arise.
One observation until then: unless Elizabeth Edwards is superhumanly tolerant of Rielle Hunter, who the National Enquirer says is the mother of Edwards’ daughter, Frances Quinn Hunter, the last 24 hours of 2006 at the Edwards’ household must have been “very busy” indeed.

Blogs Scoop The NY Times On Edwards Affair, Again: RiehlWorldView has an excellent roundup of Blogs who have done work on the John Edwards’ story, beating the MSM to the punch.
However, they left out DougRoss@Journal, who back in December fingered Edwards’ backer and ex-NBA player Eric Montross as part of the scheme. Ross missed that Andrew Young was being put up in Montross’ house in Chapel Hill and had Rielle Hunter instead. But, then so did DBKP.
Ross just last Thursday speculated that it was Fred Baron that was Edwards’ Big Wallet (as again, did DBKP). The next day, Baron confirmed it. [John Edwards Scandal: Is Fred Baron the Enquirer ‘Hush Money Man’?]
But, other than that, Riehl’s list is a dandy. Deceiver made the list of blogs on the Edwards beat.

PJ, Edwards very carefully planned his 1% confession on Friday night, concurrent with the 2008 Olympic opening ceremonies in Beijing, knowing barely anyone would pay attention. And even if they did, the response would be, “Ok, he confesed. Scandal over. Back to the Olympics”.
He’s a douchebag of unprecedented proportions. He makes Bill Clinton look like a naughty little boy.

If I were Howard Dean, I’d make an office call on Silky Pony, and inform him to come completely clean with this whole mess immediately because, not only will he NEVER be a Democratic party candidate for ANYTHING again, he’s possibly facing disbarment and felony charges. And if he doesn’t, NO ONE in the Democratic party is going to defend his sorry ass.

DBKP, Great Photo! What a scoop!!
I do have an alternate version to this story.
It looks like Mrs. Edwards eyes were swollen. She looks she had been crying. She also looks tired and worn out.
I suspect she did find out that night.
She was probably told of the affair by an insider. She went to see for herself.
A woman knows these things by one sideways look by the wayward lovers.
I suspect she confronted him later that evening and he confessed.
That is why the bimbo was on the payroll that night, but off the next.
It seems very plausible.
Then, like the LIAR he is, he lied to her and continued the affair.
The bimbo purposely got pregnant. She was 44. She knew better (but was retaliating as the woman scorned!)
Then Mrs. E found out again via the Enquirer last summer.
I am sure Mrs. E. lit into him then. Thats when Bimbo was hidden away.
The Fool Liar still met up with the Bimbo.
I am absolutely positive Mrs. E is done with the Lying Fool! Why else would she allow her insiders to talk to People Magazine?
I believe we will be hearing about plans for a divorce soon.
She will take half his money and set up trust funds for the kids.
I hope she does this soon. This will make it easier in the long run to be done with the Lying Fool!!
This will be the ONLY way she can rid herself of this nightmare Soap Opera and attempt to heal her wounds.
I feel very sad for Mrs. Edwards. This has to be as bad as her Cancer.

Most “one man” women believe the philanderer the first time (and sometimes the 1st few times).
They hope against hope he will change.
I am sure she believed, hoped and prayed he would change.
Look how long they were married and all the trials and tribulations they had been through.

I do not believe any conspiracy theories that she condoned her husband messing with the Bimbo.

If you are going to report dates, Elizabeth Edwards, may have known by this date, look at her face. A campaign staff member
told her, he or sh e caught Edwards entangled sometime during the campaign. Elizabeth confronted John Edwards on New Years eve, it adds up as reported by John Edwards, 2006.
Since everyone is accusing him of being the child’s father, it would be obvious he saw her at least once 9 months before the child was born, 2008, count backwards, you jerks.
Another thing, don’t you remember the Newsweek reporter saying Ms. Whore, told him she met Elizabeth once, and
she didn’t get energy because Elizabeth didn’t look her in eye. Well, can you blame Elizabeth, if she knew this day, personally I would have beat the crap out of her. I guess Elizabeth doesn’t know this is the type of bitch that gets her eyes scratched out.

Oh by the way, Rielle channeled the lawyer John O’Quinn big time billionaire trial lawyer from Texas (same as Baron), and named her daughter after him Frances Quinn, money for Frances Quinn, is what she is channeling. But he did lose the
case for Anna Nicole Smith’s mother, custody of child, whose paternity test had not been done yet. ,

Very sad… I believe Hunter tipped off the Enquirer in July to have them stationed outside the basement lift. Then her sister was on cue to express “sympathy” for Elizabeth and casually mention that JE and RH were the parents. The Hunter family is determined to keep the media on the story. RH is just waiting (what a sicko) so that she can make marry Edwards.
But why has the Enquirer been so dogged in its pursuit of the story? Does its editor blame Edwards for losing Clinton the democratic nomination?

I admire Mrs. Edwards. She has been through several tragedies in her life and they still keep coming.
This may be the first, it may not be the 1st. She made a decision to stay with him. This also took courage.
For a lamebrain drug addict like Limbaugh to make the accusations he did against Mrs. Edwards is outlandish.
I would not be surprised if he was Hunters sugar daddy. There are connections. Seems like this scenario is much more plausible than some of the deranged scenarios Limbaugh has MADE UP about Mrs. Edwards. IF he makes up those Lies about her, then we certainly have the right to entertain the possibility he is the Sugar Daddy!!

In person, and in other photos, Ms. Edwards seemed very happy and so proud of John. She was tired backstage and headed to check on the children. The “ending” date needed to be placed well before March 2007 (his wife’s health) and May 2007 (pregnancy) so that is why I feel 2006 was chosen. Just my opinion…

However, as far as mentions of this affair, Rush had more in common with the MSM than the NE–until a few weeks ago.
As far as lame-brained accusations against Mrs. Edwards, you feel sympathy for her and her condition and still ask questions; I’ve asked many of those questions. My own take: if Mrs. Edwards had never injected herself into the campaign, I wouldn’t have a right to ask. But that’s not the case. In the PR sense, to ask anything about Elizabeth Edwards is a losing cause, that’s why even she gets a free pass from even the gossip mags.

It may be just as you say, however unlikely. We have counted backwards–have been doing so for over nine months.

July 2006: Hunter begins working for Edwards campaign. (4 webisodes)
Dec 28, 2006: Edwards announces he will run for President.
Dec 30, 2006: Mrs Edwards learns of affair and confronts her husband. (at this pictured event)
Dec 31, 2006: Hunters last day on payroll.
Early 2007: Webisodes removed from Edwards website.
April, 2007: The 14K Final Payoff to Hunter.
May 23, 2007 Hunter is impregnated (40 week gestation period)
Oct. 10, 2007 The National Enquirer reports about the Edwards affair.
Oct 11, 2007 Edwards first denial
Oct – Dec 2007: Limbaugh is first to rant about Edwards affair.
Dec 19, 2007: The National Enquirer publishes photos of pregnant Hunter.
Feb 27, 2008: Baby Hunter is born in Santa Barbara, CA. No Baby Daddy listed on birth certificate.
July 21, 2008: The National Enquirer reports Edwards visits Hunter at Hotel.
Aug 8, 2008: Edwards admits to Affair.
The record shows Hunter was off payroll 1-1-07. She was off payroll, broiling with anger for four months. Hell has no fury like a woman scorned! She believes she lost him back to his wife. What if she decided to contact her old bar room buddy Limbaugh? Together they cook up a scheme. They both know her story has no legs unless a baby is born. Having a baby will increase the timeline and bring them much closer to the 2008 election, serve as an “October Surprise” and would make good press! But she is 43 years old. They can´t take any chances. She has to obtain his sperm to ensure a pregnancy through In Vitro Fertilization.

I think some people need to step back and take a deep breath. Now we have Rush Limpdick involved with Rielle getting impreganted with John Boy’s stolen sperm in some kind of Rovian “October Surprise.” Look, I like a good conspiracy theory as well as anyone, but this is nutso.
Sometimes the simplest explanation is the best: JE had admitted to the affair, her friends say she never slept with AY, even his own mother doesn’t believe it, RH is being paid off big time, and as of last week, JE is STILL calling RH and telling her that he loves her and that everything will work out. This is not rocket science.

Which brings one question to mind: why wouldn’t John Edwards use protection? Lotta reasons, long as we’re speculating.

Dee, you’re ASSUMING that this was Rielle’s first pregnancy. We don’t know that for sure. For example,given her history,one could just as easily surmise that she could have had several abortions or miscarriages. My point being, we don’t know her medical history. And having a first baby at age 43 is not impossible, she could have had fertility treatments, etc.
We don’t need specious rumors/arguments to turn this back into a “bat boy from out space taley” that had many in the MSM shy away. The truth is strange and sordid enough without adding idle speculation into the mix.
