* Rielle Hunter, who worked with the John Edwards campaign and is the center of the John Edwards Love Child Scandal, didn’t list the father on the birth certificate of Frances Quinn Hunter, purportedly John Edwards’ baby girl.

* Ex-NBA player and UNC alum ERIC MONTROSS, named by DBKP (in conjunction with crack Internet detective Doug Ross) as owning the house that Rielle Hunter had been moved to in the Governor’s Club, an exclusive gated community in Chapel Hill, NC is speculated to be the BIG money man in the $15,000/month hush money the National Enquirer says is being paid to Hunter by Edwards. Baby’s Birth Certificate lists no Father

Earlier today, the Raleigh News & Observer reported that the birth certificate for Frances Quinn Hunter listed no father’s name. [Birth record for child lists no father]. The New & Obsever story claimed that the date of birth was listed as February 27.

Mother’s Name

Rielle Jaya James Druck was listed as the mother’s name on the birth certificate. Hunter was previously known as Lisa Druck.

NBA and the Love Child

Radar has speculated that former NBA and UNC alum ERIC MONTROSS is the big Edwards backer behind the hush money payments to Rielle Hunter. Radar gives a good account, noting that Montross gave $4000 to the Edwards campaign.

However, giving by various members of Montross’ family pushed the dollar figure into the $32,000 range, if memory serves. [NOTE: It was $15,000.] John Edwards’ Money Man: Fellow Tar Heel Eric Montross?.

We would spend more time on this aspect, but again, Doug Ross has it covered–and we’re busy taking up a collection to send to Radar to enable them to buy another “0″. They listed us as “Death by 100 Papercuts”.

I don’t know…It’s kinda catchy.

At any rate, Radar does some first-rate speculating in their article.

Elizabeth’s Birthday

Edwards’ wife, Elizabeth, was an Edwards campaign staple, who dropped off the campaign trail almost at the same time the December Enquirer story broke. At least, she got to celebrate her birthday [July 3] before the news came out in the Enquirer of John’s infamous visit to the Beverly Hilton to see Rielle Hunter and baby.

Tuesday, the National Enquirer [Edwards Hu$h Money to Misstress] released more information in the growing John Edwards Love Child Scandal, focusing on the cover-up of the John Edwards-Rielle Hunter affair, particularly $15K in hush money that the Enquirer learned is being spooned out to Hunter. The Enquirer also announced that Donald Young (not the UN ambassador, but Edwards’ former Director of Finance and assistant) is also in on the payoff list.

Oh–the baby’s a girl–Francis Quinn Hunter.

Oh, oh–Dr. Phil and his wife have apparently split–according to the Enquirer.

The Buzz

Back in December, DBKP’s RidesAPaleHorse provided us with Exclusive Picture of the Edwards-Hunter affair: DBKP World Exclusive! Photos of the Pair?? WARNING: NSFW, NSIE (Not safe for work; not safe if eating)

Mickey Kaus at Slate “Edwards: On to the Coverup, The Enquirer pursues an odd strategy with new allegations.” wants the Enquirer to release the photos now!

This seems like a tragic mistake on Perel’s part. Why? Rationally or irrationally**, release of the photos has become the talismanic MSM/bien pensant test for whether the Enquirer can be believed about anything. Release them now and the big dailies and networks will all jump into the Edwards investigation, sources will talk (because they’re either emboldened or terrified of looking bad), the whole story will come out in short order. Wikipedia will unlock! And the nation will be able move on.

That seems to be the rub: a story that the Mainstream refused to cover, refused to investigate, and continues to keep a lid on, wants the Enquirer to do their jobs for them, hand the story over in a nice package–with the photos being the bow.

Then the talking heads are free to offer their commentaries on a story that’s suddenly credible, because they and their MSM buddies are now willing to talk about it–courtesy of the Enquirer pix.

As Perel told DBKP [John Edwards Scandal: Enquirer Editor, David Perel “We Drew the Media a Road Map”] yesterday, “We’re on our schedule and no one else’s. We’ve been leading the way on this. You want to see more? Go out and do your own reporting.”

However, Kaus makes a valid–though, far-fetched–point that the MSM might scoop the Enquirer and take the story for themselves in the meantime. Likelihood of that happening, IMO, with a Mainstream press that’s been presented with a feast of info and not eaten, thus far: less than 10%.
Although Mickey does make the compelling point that if the Enquirer would get on with it, he would be free then to “obsess about” something else.

Yahoo News featured Ann Coulter’s “A BABY DADDY FOR BOTH AMERICAS“, where she piquantly observed: “Soon after Edwards met Hunter in a bar in New York, the Edwards campaign began paying her more than $100,000 to make “hip” videos of him for the campaign Web site. Unfortunately, Edwards’ hair stylists ate up most of the budget.”

The Huffington Post comes into this round of the John Edwards scandal better late than never. Though HuffPo’s Sam Stein started the whole ball rolling on Rielle Hunter back in September 2007 with, “Edwards Mystery: Innocuous Videos Suddenly Shrouded In Secrecy“, the website had been positively MSM-like in its coverage until a few days ago.

Rachel Sklar, in “Why Won’t The Media Cover Edwards? Because They Don’t Have To Yet“, attempts a bit of revisionist history.

With the exception of this site, the National Enquirer and Mickey Kaus, the media has been virtually mum on the matter of John Edward’s alleged mistress and her alleged baby that’s allegedly his.

As of last weekend, there were more references to why HuffPo wasn’t covering the latest Love Child news than HuffPo has stories on the affair.
