I never felt anything but loathing when I saw Russert on television once I began closely to listen to what he had to say on air. The surface stuff (the look in his eyes, etc.) hardly making any difference TO ME.

I never knew him personally and have no judgments pertaining to him personally. Many who never knew him seem willing to make these judgments. It is a failure of our age, one in which people believe they actually get to know celebrities etc.

Regarding his professional life, more particularly his appearances on MEET THE PRESS, more can rightly be said. I don't feel inclined to go into much detail here about that.

HOWEVER, he WAS one of those "journalists" who beat the war drums strongly...back when we were being shoved into our two wars under old George W. Bush...and THAT ALONE is enough to damn him professionally. I will also say that he was very much a creature of this country's right wing...and that he was, moreover, a strong propagandist for the causes we usually associate with rather extreme right wing individuals.

I don't miss his presence on my television at all.
