McCain: Aspen Airport Voiceovers and Rush Limbaugh Parodies

‘”You are visiting one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Preserve it, enjoy your stay, take care.”
John McCain’s voice greeting passengers arriving at Pitkin County Airport in Aspen, Colorado.
At times it’s tough to be a celebrity or a politician. People talk about your weight, your clothes, your grammar, if your butt’s too big. It’s as if a giant magnifying scope is permanently affixed to your life. Take today, Senator McCain’s voice, that’s right, his voice, faces the chopping block at the Pitkin County Airport in Aspen, Colorado while Rush Limbaugh’s been having a field day doing McCain impressions on his radio show.
Senator McCain’s “voice” is an issue today at a meeting in Aspen, Colorado on whether the local airport should shelf the Arizona Senator’s voiceovers, at least until after the election, to quell any suspicions that the airport is partisan. Meanwhile talk show host Rush Limbaugh has been having a field day impersonating the Senator’s voice in a not-so-flattering manner.
McCain and other celebrities’ voices were recruited to make PA announcements in the airport by Pitkin County community relations Director Pat Bingham who thought of the idea last year. Since then several celebrities and locals’ voices including Senator McCain were recorded for voiceovers at the airport extolling passengers on the new security regulations and the reminder to “preserve” the beauty of Aspen, “one of the most beautiful places on earth”.
Rush Limbaugh, the ascerbic conservative talk show host, often does an “impression” of McCain’s voice in a manner that denotes a certain “disdain” for the Senator.
Limbaugh’s frequent parodies of McCain has added some “confusion” to the 2008 election, especially for the liberal pundits and MSM, who can’t quite figure out why Limbaugh isn’t behaving in a stereotypical manner of right-wing Republicans. Limbaugh “seems” to have a mind of his own and hasn’t adopted the “lockstep” mentality of ultra-conservatives nor become a McCain propagandist to further the “right-wing” agenda confounding Liberal pundits across the nation.
Listen to McCain’s voice in Limbaugh’s parody of Citizen Kane, titled Citizen McCain.
Could Limbaugh’s actions be proof that those who are conservative might, *gasp* be capable of independent thought in regards to the politicians on both sides of the aisle?
As for the Aspen Airport, they’re meeting today to decide whether or not to keep McCain’s voiceover or just hold it until after the election in order to not appear as partisan during the election.
