When will the John Edwards Love Child come home to roost?

John Edwards Love Child Scandal

Rielle Hunter, the ex-campaign worker/video producer, who was impregnated by John Edwards–according to the National Enquirer (and at least one Hunter friend)–has had her baby and is still secluded, by many reports, in a North Carolina multi-million dollar home owned by an Edwards backer.

Just added! “John Edwards Scandal: The Scandal in 3 Minutes” at end of story.

John Edwards, he of the “Two Americas–one that wears condoms, the other that doesn’t–is back in the news. First, Edwards came out yesterday and endorsed Barack Obama. In related news, the NY Times reports that Edwards would “consider the role of vice president, and favored the position of attorney general.”

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — John Edwards gave his long-awaited endorsement to Senator Barack Obama on Wednesday, bolstering Mr. Obama’s efforts to rally the Democratic Party around his candidacy and offering potential help in his efforts to win over working class white voters in the general election.

“The Democratic voters in America have made their choice, and so have I,” Mr. Edwards told a roaring crowd of more than 12,000 people here in the Van Andel Arena, on a day when Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton was trying to capitalize on her victory on Tuesday in West Virginia and convince superdelegates and contributors that she still has a chance to capture the Democratic nomination.

Mark, a commenter at New York Nerd, sounded absolutely like a fortune teller when, back on January 6 2008, he predicted that the MSM, which imposed a blackout on any news concerning the Hunter-Edwards affair, would only become interested in the affair IF Edwards won the Democrat nomination.

John Edwards still has one hurdle to cross. I predict that the MSM will go after the John Edwards - Rielle Hunter love affair story ONLY if he looks to be the nominee.

The MSM would prefer to just ignore any sex scandal of a politician (Democrat, that is), but they may have to cover the story when Ms. Hunter puts John Edwards on the birth certificate as the father. Under some state laws, it’s the birth certificate that counts for child support, if the “birth father” does not contest it.

Might that not still hold true, if Edwards is the VP candidate again?

We’ll see.

The Mainstream Media has proved unusually resistant to any and all curiosity where the curiously “coincidental” happenings of the Rielle Hunter-John Edwards story is concerned. Maybe the “Two Americas” Edwards referred to meant the ordinary curiosity that most folks exhibit upon reading about the circumstances surrounding Rielle Hunter and John Edwards–and the Mainstream Media brand of decidedly selective curiosity about all things involving the Democrat Party.

One other item caught our attention in the New York Times report.

Missing from the event was Elizabeth Edwards, Mr. Edwards’s wife, who has been a passionate proponent of universal health care. The Edwardses were said to be split on the endorsement, with Mrs. Edwards said to favor Mrs. Clinton because of her preference for parts of the Clinton health care plan.

Mr. Obama, who accepted Mr. Edwards’s endorsement with praise for the speech and the man, also praised Mrs. Edwards and her commitment to health care. Asked if she would endorse him, he said, “I would not speak for Elizabeth.”

Of course, no MSM curiosity was excited when Elizabeth Edwards, a campaign mainstay, disappeared from public campaign appearances–almost curiously–at about the time the Enquirer story showed a very pregnant Rielle Hunter. Hunter–again curiously–was moved by the Edwards campaign to within five miles of the campaign’s headquarters shortly before the story broke.

Edwards, like all canny politicians, might have been down, but never out. Edwards is angling for a second vice presidential slot.

As the campaign proceeds, aides to both men said, Mr. Edwards is sure to be included on a short-list of vice presidential prospects. Mr. Edwards has played down any aspirations for an administration role. In an interview in January, he said he would not accept a vice presidential spot or a Cabinet position. “No, absolutely not,” he said, shaking his head emphatically. But privately, he told aides that he would consider the role of vice president, and favored the position of attorney general.

Edwards, a one-term senator, would not provide much “experience” to the Obama ticket. Senator Obama is currently about in the middle of his first term in the U.S. Senate.

    Anyone who reads AND believes the Enquirer needs to brush up on his critical thinking skills.

    LOL:

    That may be, however: what might be said about anyone who dismisses documented evidence because it came from the same source that broke any number of previous political scandals the MSM wouldn’t touch? Critical thinking demands that the thinker weigh all evidence and exhibit some thinking; i.e., making choices, evaluating all evidence.

    By dismissing out of hand any proof because it came from the National Enquirer, seems to indicate a likelihood that you may be MSM reporter material, not a critical thinker. The following are just a few of the past Enquirer stories of the past (these are off the top of my head and is not a complete list).

    1- Jesse Jackson’s love child;
    2- the existence of Monica Lewinsky’s blue dress;
    3- Gary Hart’s Monkey Business affair with Donna Rice;

    That being said, thanx for taking the time to stop by and comment.

    The author’s response to “LOL” is quite accurate. The National Enquirer, despite its sleazy reputation, actually always tells the truth. When the accuracy of a story is uncertain, the text hedges its bets a lot, but it’s still telling the truth by claiming only to repeat the claims of its sources. If one reads this story carefully, it quotes people, it says what may be true, it presents evidence. Not all of it is at the level of a mainstream newspaper, meaning two unconnected sources and of a person who is newsworthy, but then again, all the Enquirer writes is exactly what its reporters have heard. The fact that a number of people support the story, and that no one has disproved accounts of where the woman is living and how she is being hidden and protected means it is very likely to be true. Compare this with the well-known in Washington scuttlebutt that the real reason Gary Hart so abruptly dropped out of the Presidential race in 1988 was that the Washington Post was going to write that he was having an affair with his neighbor, the wife of Senator Joseph Tydings. He dropped out; the Post didn’t print it. To me, that was still newsworthy; WRC-TV even interviewed her to get her denial; she looked phonier than a $3 bill making the denial, in my opinion, but what do I know? Anwya, will someone please get that child’s slobber from a bottle of milk and compare it with a lock of hair obtained from Mr. Edwards’s barber!!!!! Then we can see what the truth is.

    I don’t buy it. Only criminal defense attorney’s deal with people who use aliases. Most wealthy professionals RUN the other way when they meet someone who uses two names. Rielle Hunter and Lisa Druck are such disparate names they portend criminality.

    Also, Edwards is handsome enough to be offered blow jobs everyday by attractive women. He doesn’t need to look to get laid.

    IF Edwards is innocent of the accusations, one would think he would counterattack, sue, or otherwise put his accusers on notice and end this. Not happening.

    Edwards foray to the Beverly Hills hostelry after midnight with many witnesses other than National Enquirer personnel
    should bring this to the forefront.

    Doesn’t anyone wonder why the Rielle campaign video’s were pulled from the air right after they paid for them?
    I saw one, and the way the camera grazes his ass lovingly and slowly is proof enough. Why are these campaign video’s
    not available anywhere?

    As with legalizing marijuana (and for some of the same reasons), extramarital sex should be off the record. If everybody does it, women, men, Republicans, Democrats, people in public office, people in the private sector–where’s the story? Ignore it and the scandal is devalued. Why not stop pushing sex in our faces all the time in magazines and TV and perhaps the nation can look around and see some problems that really need fixing? Instead, we’re caught in a death spiral of silliness.

    Anne, just because “everyone does it” - and everyone does NOT - only self-indulgent people with no morals - doesn’t mean it should be “devalued”. The highest job in the WORLD, the presidency, cannot be taken by an ambulance-chasing, lying, cheating shell of a person. AND he used his wife to try and get the presidency, at the same time while cheating on her. Wow, talk about road kill morality. Character, judgement, honesty - they are just 3 key important qualities we need in leaders. The fact he has none of the above, and at the same time has the audacity to tell the rest of the country how to live (conserve, behave, etc.) while he’s doing the opposite - you should be appalled!

    [Reply]

  • just my $0.02 said:

    I agree with Joan. Just because a person is sick doesn’t negate their responsibility to the marriage. Apprarently Newt’s wife was no longer healthy enough to fulfill her duties, hence she was let go. Then you look at Edwards, who after testing the waters decided to give his wife another chance. Marriage is a partnership, both parties need to contribute or face the consequences.

    Hey,

    McCain cheated on his 1st wife while dating his current wife, Cindy (the Druggie Zombie), then married her the day after his divorce was final. (So much for Republican family values.) Look up the cover article in Newsweek on Cindy McCain from a few weeks back.

    Don’t blame cheating liberals or Democrats. Just look at McGreevy, Craig, Gingrich, Hyde & many, many others. Politicians are the worst offenders, but there are cheaters in all walks of life & all levels of society. Why are we Americans so surprised when a new scandal breaks. Grow up!

    Has anyone noticed a trend here….All the cheaters mentioned here are politicians. It would seem to me that we are paying them too much money. Pay them enough to just take care of their families and then they won’t have spare change left to go whoring. What gold digger wants to have a kid with a man who’s broke? As for his poor wife, my heart is broken for her, but hopefully she is not suffering and has her parents love and support during this sad time.

    To LOL:

    Today I just happened upon this site and yours, LOL, was the first post displayed. The National Enquirer usually gets it right. It’s sad, but that’s the way of the world now. They’re unbiased. Whether you’re on the right or left — the National Enquirer just tells it like it is. They don’t play favorites — they go for the truth. I like THAT part! No spin.

    I’ve never liked John Edwards. He doesn’t walk the talk. He wanted to lead the country but looked down, and wouldn’t acknowledge his “trailer park” neighbors when they said “Hello” — “Good Morning.” He doesn’t see people as equals, so how could he lead the nation. He’s a control freak and power hungry. He could care less what happens to the “average” Americans. Just ask his neighbors.

    He made his money the “seedy way.”

    My heart aches for Elizabeth. I’ve watched them campaigning and I couldn’t figure out the “distance” separating John and Elizabeth. I could FEEL something was wrong but I chalked it up to her illness. I was also upset with John for dragging his wife along the trail. She should have been at home resting. It’s ALL about John! Elizabeth reminded me of an abused wife. Now, I know she is! She’s in my prayers. How DARE John Edwards treat his wife and family like this.

    When I watch the interviews where Edwards denounces the National Enquirer reporters as liars, I am sickened. Who’s lying, Mr. Edwards? When it was reported that Ms. Hunter believes she and John will get married one day, I nearly lost it. She’s waiting for Elizabeth to…well, I can’t even say it. I’m SO disgusted with Edwards and Hunter. They have NO respect for anyone. They deserve each other. There are words for women like Ms. Hunter and there are places in hell reserved for people like Edwards and Hunter. Can you IMAGINE the hell they’ve put Elizabeth through? She’s battling for her life and now has to battle for her dignity. How DARE John Edwards!

  • Never Standing By - said:

    Bottom Line: Elizabeth just needs to get out and away from the narcissistic/abuse pattern, and enjoy her life with real friends and family. Maybe go to Sardinia and enjoy a glass of Chianti and recover. I have never understood the “Stand By My Man” approach; whether you are the president’s wife or living in a one-room apartment with no job and 3 kids; there are always options; not always easy. The trend for people who crave “OPP” is that once the toe is in the water, the body always follows. Then what we have a simpering, snivelling, “I have sinned” pathetic eos that debases all of us. Good Luck Liz ! (And Get Out)
