Pole Dancing, “clean, wholesome fun” for the whole family!

According to Britain’s supermarket giant Tesco, 7-yr-old girls could use one of their push-up padded bras, perhaps while playing with their new super fun toy, the Peekaboo Pole Dancing Kit. Once they’ve reached 11, prepubescent girls can sign up for lessons offered by the local city Council, Introductory Pole Dancing.

The U.K. supermarket giant Tesco stands by its decision to sell push-up padded bras to girls as young as seven years old despite complaints from parents, the National Union of Teachers, the children’s charity NSPCC, and fashion lecturers, because, according to Tesco, the padded, uplift bra was designed to “cover up, not flatter”, and that Tesco had sought input from parents.

Tesco seems to follow its own agenda in regards to what is “appropriate” for kids, particularly prepubescent girls when in 2006 the store was forced to remove the pole-dancing kit, Peekaboo, from its online toy section and move it over to the sports section under “Fitness Accessories”.

We did a cursory search of the online Tesco store and couldn’t find the Peekaboo Pole Dancing Kit. What we did find was an article in the Daily Mail in 2007 where the town Council of Cardiff offered pole dancing lessons to children as young as 11.

Described by the Council as a “great way to keep fit and have lots of fun at the same time” a two hour beginners session was offered for both kids and adults. The Council advertised the class on its website as “Something you’ve always wanted to have a go at” and as “suitable for participants of 11 years and upwards”.

Pole Dancing, even puppies do it!

From the Cardiff Council website:

Lessons available from only £10/hr (£3 off for students) with fully trained and insured instructor. Learn from a beginner to a professional standard. Pole dance is a great way to get fit, gain confidence and get sexy! Learn on your own or with a friend.

Classes in Que Pasa upstairs (18-19 Trinity St, Cardiff) on Tuesday evenings or in Elite Fitness Gym (Norbury Rd, Fairwater, Cardiff)on Thursday evenings. Exclusive drinks promotions with lessons. Limited places so email or phone to book as soon as possible.

Private Lessons also available in own studio - call or email for more information. We also do Hen/Birthday parties.

We say, of course it bloody well doesn’t “feel like fitness class”.

Tesco and the Cardiff City Council are examples of organizations that are in the business of sexualizing young girls, whether through idiocy or a darker, more malevolent intent. While Tesco may argue that the padded, uplift bra is suitable for little seven year old girls, in the end it’s up to the parents as consumers as to whether or not such merchandise is indeed, acceptable.

As for the Cardiff Council offering pole dancing lessons to girls as young as 11, we wondered, are there sex clubs in Cardiff? We find it incredulous that these people are “unaware” of the true nature of pole dancing especially when we found this link added to the Cardiff Council website advertising Pole Dancing Lessons. We also found this link to a local “lap dance” club which features pole dancing so it seems the local council must be aware at some conscious level that pole dancing may not be suitable for young girls?

While it’s okay and encouraged for young girls to take pole dancing lessons we found that smoking is not. Since the enactment of anti-smoking laws the very same Council that offers pole dancing lessons is allowed to police local establishments.

Thousands of council staff are being trained to police the smoking ban in bars, restaurants and shops in England.
Ministers have given councils £29.5m to pay for staff, who will be able to give on-the-spot £50 fines to individuals and take court action against premises.

They will have the power to enter premises undercover, allowing them to sit among drinkers, and will even be able to photograph and film people.

The smoking ban is due to come into force on 1 July. It covers virtually all enclosed public places including offices, factories, pubs and bars. But neither outdoor space nor private homes will be affected. Source - Thousands to Police Smoking Ban

So in a nutshell, 7 yr-old girls can now purchase push-up bras and pole dancing kits, take lessons at the local council but can’t smoke. We suppose we should be grateful for such tender mercies.
