That's not necissarily true. There are many factors at play before one can determine the last pictures are at night. Cloud cover, flashes on cameras, camera swaps, zooming (to name a few). I think it is brash to call everyone idiots.

Nope - but I did see the ambient light changing. Perhaps you've seen this in real life, too? Sun starts going down, becomes more pinkish, makes colours look different? Look at the bigger picture next time.

I'll have to admit, I'm a little undecided about this one - particularly the little bit of extra text at the bottom. There's a reason why we have "due process" in most civilized countries - there are often circumstances at play which police might not be aware of. Was the hostage taker being coerced? What he suffering a mental collapse? They don't know.

As an example of unknown circumstances, look at the wrester Chris Benoit. When he killed his whole family and himself, most of the response was negative against him. Fair enough. That's human nature (although Bill O'reilly typically went overboard without knowing the facts). What was the result of the research? He had a severely damaged brain which threw him into a psychotic rage. Is that the fault of Mr. Benoit the person? Of course not - he wasn't even thinking right at the time.

If we also go back in history a little, we see many examples of police taking matters into their own hands, and ended up either killing or jailing completely innocent people. How is that fair? Sorry to say this, but I think a person's life is a tad more important than a few extra dollars in your taxes.

Does the system always work? No. Nobody is making that claim. But simply resorting to brute-force CANNOT be condoned.

I am a British woman living in China, and I have to say that you are all talking out of your arses. You seem to either be saying 'he deserved it, we are too soft' or 'China will lock you up for disagreeing'. Why don't you all actually learn something about the world instead of just making it up?

I am frankly surprised the Chinese police did anything. Whenever any information is released from China, realize that the government has allowed, possibly modified and edited it. Thus the story is propaganda. My experiences in China contradict any concern on the government's part for human life. When there is an incident, the authorities typically don't respond and only will do so when someone is dead. Children are horribly abused and victimized and the "police" do nothing. There is an overpass in Shenzhen where children are displayed with signs asking for charity. They often lack limbs and it is common knowledge that the assholes cut them off to make the kids look pitiful. They are typically drugged and left out for hours. The police do nothing. Human life is not valued as much in China as it the West. There are so many people that the government welcomes death. They execute more people in China yearly than the combined executions in the rest of the world. They put off their investigation of melamine induced deaths as to not embarrass their Olympic spectacle and their response to the earth quake was simply orchestrated propaganda.

Im not saying that the guy didnt get what he deserves for taking a child hostage. However, there are reasons why we take the time to do things correctly in hostage situations. The first is that it is the government's job to do whatever they can to end a situation with the least loss of life possible. The second is that what they did in this situation is just plain stupid. They risked the life of the hostage, as well as the negotiator in the choice of tactics they used. There is a reason police forces take the time and effort to train snipers, as well as negotiators.
