Chinese Hostage Negotiations
A Recent Case Study

“I have 3 demands or I’ll kill the boy!”

Negotiators assess the situation from next door.

In this country, we would block off the street, take 12 hours to talk him out of it, spend $5 million giving him a fair trial, and pay his food and lodging for life.

No wonder their products are cheaper than ours.

“Someone in pain dead” — opeongo

Yes, I’d have more compassion for that “someone in pain” if that someone didn’t threaten to kill another innocent someone. There are consequences for actions, no matter what you “feel”.

My compassion disappears for anyone “in pain” when they intend to inflict pain or death on someone else. I have even less compassion if that “poor soul” makes demands on others. It’s not being “in pain”, it’s called being “whiningly selfish”.

While I don’t think Cops should be trigger-happy, I do say that the USA no longer punishes criminals for criminal behavior. This notion of “rehabilitation” is inexcusable. There are consequences for actions, and there should be punishments for violations of law. The punishment should fit the crime, and when the punishment is finished, you can then rehabilitate. Criminals need to understand that punishment is punishment.

Once upon a time criminals were given appropriate punishments for their crimes. Once upon a time there were chain gangs, and hard labor punishments, not group sessions. Once upon a time the crime rate was lower. Justice is robbed all too often in the USA.

With that said, I think all punishments should have a period of rehabilitation training after the punishment is over, or certain times or days between punishment times. Rehabilitation should never replace punishment. It should supplement it.

I have no problem punishing someone and teaching them a trade at the same time.

As for the above pictures, I’d call that cop a hero. He saved a child’s life from a completely selfish whining jerk.

What’s wrong with the internet? People taking things too seriously. It’s a set of pics, it’s funny, laugh and move on, if you don’t like it, fine, don’t laugh and move on, either way, I doubt these pics were intended to incite everyone’s dissertation on justice, politics, and the American legal system.

That’d be great if we dealt with hostage situations like that. If a few innocent hostages were accidentally killed per year, what does it matter so long as we save time and money.

No, in this country we’d block off the street, spend 5 hours talking him down, and send in the swat team. Tear gas the entire complex, including hostages, toss in a flashbang, send 4 guys with a cumulative 50,000 dollars worth of equipment on them, and escort everyone out.

In china, they use a rope and pistol. They just use cheaper products.

Anyone who takes a child hostage deserves to die, period. If my kid was in that school, I’d have been the first one there with a rifle and a scope. And yes, I am a trained police sniper. My only regret is that the beauracrats spend too much time talking, and not enough action.

  • Chris said:

The problem with doing this is, what if he has the gun pointed at one of them? What’s going to happen when you walk out of the other window and point a firearm at him? If this is the best way to defuse a crisis, then so be it; he’s threatening the lives of children, and even though I’m not one to call for blood, any means necessary have to be taken to protect innocent life. This could have ended very badly, though. They probably should have used a trained police sniper, at least.

They felt he was on the verge of injuring the 2 children hed had hostage w/ two kitchen knives(he was armed). The police also put a huge airbag on the ground to attempt to protect the child and the man f/falling. The guy lived!

How many times have you been thrown in the back of a cop car without your shirt on? Don’t get angry at me - get mad at your cell mate who’s gonna make you his Bi-atch. You enjoy big cigars? Clinton could use your ass in case Lewisnki is busy. Racist loser - love yourself and you can love others, but that’s probably not possible for you so you’ll just live a miserable, unhappy, life with your dog/ wife. BTW, your President is a better man than you, and he’s a democrat. Martin Luther King Jr is a better man than you and he’s dead. Even, Rosie O Donnel is a better man than you, because you are a loser. LOSER- keeristalmighty - even Jesus wouldn’t want you, racist asshole.

Im not saying that the guy didnt get what he deserves for taking a child hostage. However, there are reasons why we take the time to do things correctly in hostage situations. The first is that it is the government’s job to do whatever they can to end a situation with the least loss of life possible. The second is that what they did in this situation is just plain stupid. They risked the life of the hostage, as well as the negotiator in the choice of tactics they used. There is a reason police forces take the time and effort to train snipers, as well as negotiators.

  • Warren said:

I am frankly surprised the Chinese police did anything. Whenever any information is released from China, realize that the government has allowed, possibly modified and edited it. Thus the story is propaganda. My experiences in China contradict any concern on the government’s part for human life. When there is an incident, the authorities typically don’t respond and only will do so when someone is dead. Children are horribly abused and victimized and the “police” do nothing. There is an overpass in Shenzhen where children are displayed with signs asking for charity. They often lack limbs and it is common knowledge that the assholes cut them off to make the kids look pitiful. They are typically drugged and left out for hours. The police do nothing. Human life is not valued as much in China as it the West. There are so many people that the government welcomes death. They execute more people in China yearly than the combined executions in the rest of the world. They put off their investigation of melamine induced deaths as to not embarrass their Olympic spectacle and their response to the earth quake was simply orchestrated propaganda.
