This is DBKP’s Week in Crime for the week of January 6th-12th, 2008.

At craigscrimelist the focus was on a bunch of scammers from long island who were placing phony ads on craigslist claiming to sell Porches then robbing the buyers when they showed up. Turns the ring was nothing more than a bunch of teens.

At the user generated news site CrimeNe.ws blogging was light this week. However, even though I’m not usually one for stories about the missing blonde girl of the week I couldn’t help but be drawn to the story of missing and now murdered pregnant Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach.

Over at my site about social network related crimes MyCrimeSpace this big story this week was that a federal grand jury has issued subpoenas in the case of Megan Meier. I’m sure DBKP readers remember the tale of Megan Meier, the 14-year-old girl from Missouri who was driven to suicide by a fake MySpace hoax perpetrated by adult and neighbor Lori Drew. Now the Feds may be looking to file fraud charges against Lori Drew.

This past week at News of Doom which highlights man’s inhumanity to man at it’s basest level I’ve declared 2008 to be the year of child abusers and not in a good way. Just last week I posted about an Iowa witch who killed his step-children, an Alabama man who through his kids off of a bridge, a Washington D.C. ‘mother’ who killed her four children because they were ‘possessed’, a Pennsylvania ‘man’ who was caught beating the children he was trying to adopt, a Florida ‘man’ who killed his baby daughter because he wanted a son, and a New York woman who burned her son in an oven.

For those of you keeping score at News of Doom there is a five way tie for first/last place between OH,TX,FL,PA,and AL. Florida has yet to be beat in the year end scoring.

At Psycho for Love I’m still following the saga of beauty queen turned kidnapper Kumari Fulbright. However the story that most caught my eye this week was the story of Jason Michael Fife who in order to stop his wife from cheating sent a bloody severed cow’s head to his wife’s lover. Apparently it worked because they reconciled.

At my video game related crime site Public Enemy: Player1 I touched on two arson cases that were linked to video games. One in Georgia linked to a Tony Hawk skateboarding game and one in North Carolina linked to the ultraviolent Postal 2. I’m sure it had nothing to do with kids with too much time on their hands and no parental supervision.

At my site that celebrates Tasers and all things Taser related Tased and Confused I heralded the coming of TASER Internationals latest product, the Taser MPH. It’s a Taser that comes with MP3 player built into the holster. I refrained from calling in the iTaser.

And lastly at my blog about school violence TheTrenchcoat Chronicles I posted about an attack at a school that really didn’t generate all the much national attention and it should have. It happened at Antietam Middle-Senior High School near Reading, PA. A 13-year-old male stormed the school with knives and a blow torch before he was subdued by school officials. Luckily there were only minor injuries.
