Megan Meier MySpace Suicide: A Message From Megan’s Mother, Tina Meier

We received this message post to our website within the last few hours. It was signed “A Message from Tina Meier” and the heading was the same.

It is an announcement of a candlelight vigil tomorrow night at 6 pm.

It is a “peaceful candlelight vigil” and details items for those wishing to participate: a candle, cup to hold the candle and something to light the candle.

It also gives information on the route and calls for anyone who wants to speak, read a poem or say something to honor Megan Meier to step forward at tomorrow night’s event.

The complete text of the message follows:

This is Megan’s mom, Tina Meier, and I wanted to update everyone on the details for the candlelight vigil for Saturday, November 24, 2007.

*We are meeting at 6:00 p.m. at the Fort Zumwalt West Middle school parking lot.

*Please bring a candle, cup to hold the candle and something to light the candle. (If you cut a small X in the bottom of the cup, you can slide the candle through it and then you won’t have wax dripping on you)

*We will then light the candle’s shortly after 6:00 p.m. and start walking from the school down Waterford crystal drive towards Megan’s house and end up in front of the Drew’s house.

*There is a common ground area across the street and we will have pa system and microphone. if anyone would like to speak, read a poem, etc., they are more than welcome.

*This wonderful idea came from students who wanted to see justice for Megan and for that we are so happy. Nothing we can do will bring Megan back, but we can all learn from Megan and take a part of her with us everyday for the rest of our lives to try to be a better person and think about things we say to people before we say them!

*****Remember this is a peaceful candlelight vigil******
We hope to see everyone there!

The candlelight vigil is a fitting way to honor Tina’s daughter, Megan, who was the subject of attention over the last ten days, when her story became known nationwide.

Although we cannot make it ourselves, DBKP would like to send along the thoughts and prayers of the entire staff.

I was sexually abused by my father and his friends. I was physically and emotionally abused by my mother. I was put down numerous times as a child by kids and adults…Does that mean you “have to kill yourself”? Absolutely not! I am a survivor. Sure I’ve felt like giving up and ending it all, but sucked it up and made it. Now I am married with two children.

Cyber bullying and bulling in general of children should not be tolerated. On many websites regarding your daughter you imply that cyber bullying is why your daughter killed herself.

I think you are blaming your daughter’s choice to end her life on someone else. I would want someone to pay if one of my children killed themselves as well. Anything so I wouldn’t feel bad because they didn’t talk to me first about their problems. Just because someone is mean to you doesn’t mean you have to kill yourself. Life is cruel sometimes…but not all the time.

No one is perfect & we all have done things we are not proud to admit. Drews actions while inappropriate, did not kill Megan. Megan chose to end her own life. Not your fault. not the neighbors fault. Those that kill themselves have preexisting conditions of depression & lowered self esteem. While others can exacerbate our conditions, others are NOT to blame if we chose to end our own lives. Its our job as parents to instill in our children the self-confidence needed to overcome in this world
